When the meeting ended, he walked to my side.

I was about to take two quick steps and avoid him, but he caught my elbow.

I quickly raised a file to block the view, pretended to open it, and glared at him.

He smiled and leaned in as if discussing the document.

In a low voice by my ear, he said, “Come home early tonight. Let’s have dinner together.”

“We’ll see,” I said, looking down and brushing him off.

His eyes went dark.

“Claire, ever since… I came back from Europe, we haven’t eaten together in a long time.”

“You say you’re busy every time.”

Either I said I had overtime, or I said I already had dinner plans.

I avoided every possible moment when I might sit at the same table with him.

Then he turned toward me with a pointed tone.

“The day after tomorrow, Mr. Pierce will inspect the project site at our branch office. Claire, remember to take good care of Mr. Pierce and Miss Grant.”

Ethan said, “Olivia won’t…”

“It’s all arranged. Every part of Mr. Pierce and Miss Grant’s itinerary will be together.”
