He Left Me in the Rain with No Memory And Now I’m Someone Else’s Wife Chapter 05

The rain was coming down hard.

My parents couldn’t stop worrying about Vanessa’s wound and decided to take her to the hospital anyway.

My mother sat by the hospital bed, peeling an apple for Vanessa. My father leaned over to adjust the angle of Vanessa’s bed, afraid she might be uncomfortable.

Gideon stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the torrential rain outside, staying silent the whole time.

Vanessa took a happy bite of her apple and looked at Gideon’s back.

“Gideon, you dumped her on that abandoned road on the outskirts, right?”

“Middle of nowhere, no houses, no people. No way Ella can walk back without being out in that storm for at least two hours.”

She let out a smug humph.

“That should teach her a lesson. Let’s see if she dares to mess with me again.”

Suddenly, Gideon felt something was off.

He turned around and looked at Vanessa.

“Vanessa, you said earlier you went into her room to look for something.”

“Why did you trash her room so badly? Even smashed her piggy bank?”

Vanessa’s smile froze, caught off guard by the question.

She darted her eyes, then put on a pitiful look and turned to my parents.

“I… I was just curious how much money she’d stashed away. I didn’t know she’d go ballistic and start smashing things, and then shove me onto the floor.”

“Gideon, you’re not suggesting I set her up, are you?”

My parents immediately jumped in.

“Of course not! Gideon, don’t overthink it.”

“Vanessa is such a sweet girl—why would she hurt Ella? It’s Ella, raised in the boondocks with no class, grabbing at everything she sees and always bullying Vanessa.”

Gideon listened, but he didn’t push further.

Instead, he just said, “When you get home, Uncle and Auntie, please don’t hit her anymore.”

“After this whole ordeal, Ella should know her place and won’t bother Vanessa again.”

My parents didn’t say anything, but they nodded in agreement.

Just then, the attending doctor, Dr. Cole, walked in.

Dr. Cole disinfected, changed the dressing, and gave his routine instructions. “Try not to get the wound wet. Apply the medication on time.”

“Next time, Miss Croft, do be more careful and don’t fall onto glass shards again.”

Vanessa nodded.

My mother grumbled bitterly from the side, “If that brat hadn’t pushed Vanessa, she’d never have gotten hurt.”

“It’s all that jinx’s fault!”

At those words, Dr. Cole’s pen stopped mid-stroke.

He adjusted his glasses, his tone turning serious.

“Pushed?”

“Mrs. Croft, this wound doesn’t look like it came from being shoved.”

Dr. Cole pointed at Vanessa’s wound, speaking with certainty.

“When someone is pushed, the natural instinct is to brace with palms or knees—so the wounds appear there.”

“But Miss Croft’s injuries are mostly on the front of her body. It looks like she fell directly onto shards on the ground. And if she had been pushed with real force, the wounds wouldn’t be this superficial.”

The air in the room froze solid.

Gideon spun around and stared at Vanessa.

Vanessa’s eyes darted in panic, and she shrieked, “No, Dr. Cole, you’re wrong—she did push me!”

“It was Ella!”

Dr. Cole frowned even harder when he heard my name, as if remembering something.

He turned to my parents, his tone sharp and questioning.

“Ella? She couldn’t have pushed anyone.”
