He Guaranteed Her Loan, I Filed for Divorce the Same Day Chapter 07

The van’s engine roared to life.

His voice cracked. He begged me not to leave, screamed for me to call the police for him.

I stood planted where I was and watched them push him back inside.

The moment the van door slammed shut, the pleading in his eyes twisted into pure hatred.

“Elowen Voss! You cold-blooded monster! You knew about this all along, didn’t you!”

I turned and walked away.

That night, my phone blew up. Dozens of unknown text messages poured in-all threats from

debt collectors.

[You’re Darien Hale’s ex-wife. You must still hold joint assets.]

[Hand the money over or we’ll come find you at your place.]

[We know where you work. Think carefully.]

[Your son is in our hands.]

I screenshot every single message and forwarded them all to Liana.

The next morning, I met my attorney. We formally filed with the court for a ruling that all guaranty-related debts were fully severed from my personal assets.

Liana shuffled through my evidence and nodded.

“This case is solid. Those screenshots you sent last night are critical proof you never

participated in or consented to any of this borrowing.”

She glanced up at me.

“What’s the status of your ex-husband?”

“I don’t know.”

Right then, my company’s receptionist rushed over, face pale with alarm.

“Ms. Voss. Your ex-husband is out front. He’s kneeling and refuses to leave.”

I walked out to the lobby.

Darien had been released.

Dark bruising circled his neck, like rope marks. He wore only one shoe, raw scrapes covering the top of his bare foot.

When he saw me, I was his only hope. He dropped to his knees with a heavy thud in front of all

my coworkers.

“Elowen, I was wrong! Lorelei tricked me! She ran away!”

He dragged himself across the floor toward me, reaching for the hem of my trousers.

I didn’t tell him to stand.

I looked down.

“Where is Kai? Where did you leave him?”

Darien froze.

“He’s with Lorelei…”

“Are you certain?”

His gaze went blank.

“She-she said she would pick him up right after school.”

A short laugh escaped me.

“Lorelei’s phone number is disconnected. Who actually has our son?”

Darien went rigid, as if struck by lightning.

He scrambled to his feet and stumbled toward the exit.

I motioned security to block him, pointing toward the building doors.

“Don’t come back to this office ever again.”
