He Gave My Daughter to His Ex, So I Destroyed His Perfect Life Chapter 07

At 10:26 in the morning, the first expedited results arrived.

When Detective Foster opened the envelope, I almost forgot how to breathe.

Ethan stood by the window, his back straight.

Evelyn sat in the wheelchair, clutching the blanket tightly.

Her lips were already bleeding from how hard she had bitten them.

Detective Foster’s expression shifted slightly.

Then she looked up at me.

“The deceased infant is not biologically related to Ms. Clara Whitmore as her daughter.”

I closed my eyes.

Tears spilled down my face.

I wasn’t the unstable woman they all thought I was.

That cold little body wasn’t my daughter.

Detective Foster continued reading.

“The deceased infant is biologically related to Ms. Evelyn Hart as her daughter.”

Evelyn screamed.

“That’s impossible!”

The moment the words left her mouth, she froze.

Because by saying that, she had already admitted she knew the deceased infant was connected to her.

Ethan’s face turned completely pale.

Detective Foster turned to the next page.

“The baby girl inside the neonatal transport incubator is biologically related to Ms. Clara Whitmore as her

daughter.”

My legs went weak.

My mother caught me, tears falling from her eyes.

“Clara… she’s your baby.”

I covered my mouth with my hand.

I cried so hard no sound came out.

Detective Foster continued.

“The deceased infant is also biologically related to Mr. Ethan Caldwell as his daughter.”

The hallway went completely silent.

Victoria suddenly turned toward Ethan.

“You and Evelyn…”

She couldn’t finish the sentence.

The preliminary forensic report arrived shortly after.

The deceased infant’s lungs showed no signs of breathing after birth, and there was no evidence of

swallowed air in the stomach.

That meant she hadn’t died after birth during a failed resuscitation attempt.

She had already died in the womb.

Her estimated time of death was at least eight hours before my daughter was born.

I walked toward the neonatal transport incubator one step at a time.

Then I lifted my daughter out.

“Baby…”

I lowered my head and kissed her forehead.

“Mommy found you.”

She cried softly twice, as if she felt wronged.

I held her tighter.

Suddenly, Evelyn threw herself out of the wheelchair.

“That’s mine! She was already in my arms! She’s mine!”

The officers grabbed her.

She struggled wildly, trying to break free. Her shawl slipped onto the floor.

“I have nothing left! My baby is dead, and Ethan was going to leave me and go back to you. Why won’t you let

me keep this child too?”

I looked at her.

My voice was quiet.

“Because she isn’t something you can use to heal yourself.”

“She’s my daughter.”

Evelyn cried until she could barely make a sound.

Ethan finally walked over.

He stared at the baby in my arms, his eyes red.

“Clara, I just… I just wanted to keep Evelyn stable first. Once she was better, I was going to give the baby back

to you.”

I looked up at him.

“You made me hold her deceased infant while I listened to the doctors tell me my daughter was dead.”

“You made the hospital create records saying my daughter died during resuscitation.”

“You made everyone believe I was crazy.”

“Ethan Caldwell, you call that keeping her stable?”

His lips moved.

But he couldn’t say a word.

Detective Foster motioned for her officers to step forward.

Dr. Lane, the head nurse, and the nurse responsible for the transfer were all taken away for questioning.

Evelyn was also placed under police control.

Ethan was ordered to remain at the scene and cooperate with the investigation.

He looked at me as if he had finally realized what he had lost.

But it was too late.

I held my daughter close and walked away without looking back.
