He Gave My Daughter to His Ex, So I Destroyed His Perfect Life Chapter 05

Detective Foster didn’t believe my story at first.

But she didn’t take the hospital’s side either.

She immediately ordered the elevator area sealed off, then told her officers to guard every exit from the

hospital unit.

“No one involved in this case leaves.”

Ethan’s expression turned grim.

“Officer, my wife just lost our newborn child. She’s emotionally unstable right now. This involves medical

privacy, and there could be a misunderstanding here.”

Detective Foster looked at him.

“Whether it’s a misunderstanding or not, we’ll determine that after the investigation.”

Dr. Lane quickly arrived with the medical records folder.

She handed over a stack of documents.

“This is Ms. Whitmore’s daughter’s resuscitation record. This is the death confirmation. And this is the neonatal emergency care consent form signed by Mr. Caldwell. Every procedure was carried out according

to hospital regulations.”

I looked at her.

“What about the surveillance footage?”

Dr. Lane replied,

“The resuscitation room involves patient privacy. Only the police can access it.”

Detective Foster nodded.

“Then we’ll retrieve it.”

She looked at the neonatal transport incubator in Evelyn’s arms.

“This baby cannot be transferred anywhere for now either.”

Evelyn suddenly panicked.

“No! My daughter’s breathing is unstable. She needs to go to the regional children’s hospital for further

examination.”

I stared at her.

“She was sleeping perfectly fine just moments ago.”

Evelyn’s tears fell faster.

“Ms. Whitmore, I know you’re devastated. But you can’t claim my child is yours just because you smelled

something. A scent isn’t evidence.”

She was right.

It wasn’t evidence.

I knew that.

Frostwood fragrance could pull me out of the darkness.

But it couldn’t put them behind bars.

So I said,

“I need a forensic DNA test.”

Ethan immediately spoke.

“I’ll cooperate.”

I looked at him.

“I need a maternal DNA test. Samples must be collected from the deceased infant, the baby inside the

neonatal transport incubator, me, and Evelyn. Every one of us.”

The corners of his mouth tightened.

“The baby is still too young. We don’t want her to go through any unnecessary discomfort.”

“We’ll use a cheek swab. No blood will be drawn.”

Dr. Lane said,

“We work with a certified laboratory. We can speed up the testing process.”

The stream of comments suddenly appeared before my eyes.

【Don’t use the hospital’s laboratory.】

【The sample labels they prepared are fake.)

【There are spare evidence seals in Dr. Lane’s office drawer.]

I turned to Detective Foster.

“The police need to work with a certified forensic laboratory. The DNA collection kits must be opened on-site

under official supervision, and the entire process must be recorded.”

Detective Foster looked at me for several seconds.

“Agreed.”

Ethan’s voice turned cold.

“You don’t even trust me?”

I looked at him.

“Have you given me a single reason to trust you?”

The words landed harder than any accusation could have.

Victoria trembled with anger beside him.

“Clara, don’t take this too far. Ethan is the child’s father!”

“He’s her father. That’s exactly why this is terrifying.”

My body was reaching its limit.

I swayed slightly.

My mother immediately caught me.

Detective Foster ordered her officers to seal the deceased infant’s remains and called in the forensic team.

Dr. Lane’s expression grew darker by the second.

She tried making several phone calls, but every time, the officers stopped her.

“Even work-related calls need to be explained first. Tell us who you’re calling and why.”

Evelyn sat in the wheelchair, refusing to let go of the neonatal transport incubator.

Then I heard my daughter make a soft sound inside.

My heart clenched painfully.

“Let me see the skin behind her ear.”

Evelyn immediately screamed.

“No! Don’t touch her!”

Detective Foster signaled for the officer beside her to step closer.

The officer carefully opened the side panel of the neonatal transport incubator and gently moved the blanket

away from the baby’s ear.

My mother stood beside me, her eyes turning red.

That faint trace of fragrance drifted out.

She whispered,

“She’s a Whitmore family child.”

Evelyn bit her lip, her voice trembling.

“Your entire family is in the fragrance business. Of course you’d say whatever benefits you.”

I didn’t argue.

I only looked at Detective Foster.

“Please hurry.”

“I’m afraid the
