He Fell For My Sister From A Class Photo Chapter 03

But now I was right under his nose.

There was nothing but polite distance in the way he looked at me.

I finally lifted my head, about to say I was leaving.

Ethan’s gaze froze on the student ID hanging around my neck.

He arched a brow, a faint smirk on his face. “You’re in the same college as me?”

The School of Engineering, Crestwood University.

I almost wanted to cover my ID.

One slip-up.

I remembered how he’d badgered me nonstop back then, begging to know what college major I’d applied for.

I couldn’t resist his pestering.

Maybe some part of me was hopeful, too.

I told him what I applied for.

I never thought he’d enroll in the same department.

But just as the thought crossed my mind, Ethan let out a soft tsk.

A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes, and he murmured, “Can’t believe she lied about this too.”

The second those words left his mouth, all the nervous flutters I’d been feeling melted away.

My heart plunged into icy calm.

I just looked away and said, “I have to go.”

Ethan stepped aside to let me pass.

“You and your sister are so different,” he said.

I was already walking away, but at that, I whirled around.

“What’s my sister’s personality, and what’s mine?”

My voice came out hard, shockingly unfamiliar to my own ears.

But Ethan just smiled.

He leaned back lazily against the railing.

When he talked about my sister, his voice softened all at once.

“Your sister’s rebellious. All thorns.”

He added, “As for you… you seem like you don’t have a temper.”

He was calling me soft. Meek. It was the same label everyone had always stuck on me.

Mom and Dad sighed about how timid I was.

Vivienne was disappointed in me.

Even in school, no one wanted to be my friend.

I was the quiet, invisible loner.

Freshman year, replying to Ethan’s comment online was the boldest, bravest thing I’d ever done.

I dropped my gaze and stayed silent for half a minute before finally lifting my head to look at him.

“You’re right,” I said. “My sister is gorgeous and talented. No matter how terrible her attitude is, people still flock to her.”

“That’s her privilege.”

I didn’t explain myself.

I turned and left.

I thought I heard Ethan call out behind me, but I ignored him.

I walked faster.

After that came Freshman Orientation Boot Camp, and Ethan and I were in the same group, but I barely saw him.

He was already the talk of the freshmen.

Everyone was gossiping nonstop about him and my sister.

I didn’t need Vivienne to tell me anything.

Just from overhearing classmates, I knew that after every evening session, Ethan ran straight to my sister’s group over at the Art Department.

My sister hated the heat.

From what everyone said, this spoiled rich kid born with a silver spoon had turned into her total errand boy.

He carried a backpack stuffed with bug spray, sunscreen, and even emergency meds just for Vivienne.

Someone leaned in and said, “I went to high school with Ethan. Back then, so many people chased him, but he never showed any interest. Like that switch never flipped.”

“There was this rumor that Ethan had some precious online girlfriend. Everyone thought it was just his excuse to turn girls down. Never thought it was real—and that it’s your sister.”

I clutched my clear water bottle and responded dryly, “Oh yeah?”

I said, “I don’t know much about them.”

But I couldn’t stop my mind from drifting back to that summer before junior year.

I’d been talking to Ethan online nonstop for a year by then, and we’d gotten really close.

We’d gotten so close that he’d asked me multiple times if he could come visit me over summer break.

I texted back: [I’m scared I’ll meet you IRL, and then we won’t even talk anymore.]

Ethan replied with a question mark.
