He Faked His Death for My Trust Fund. So I Planned My Own Goodbye. Chapter 06

Julian paused.

“You know me?”

“More than you think.”

Tessa’s laugh grew colder.

“That poor girl Mina spent every day holding your photo, looking at it over and over.”

“She thought she had stomach cancer, so she broke up with you out of love.”

“She lied about going to Paris, which made you get on that crashed plane.”

“She blamed herself for half a year. She couldn’t get past it.”

“All of us nurses knew about you.”

“I never thought a dead man would show up here. That’s a first.”

Tessa’s sarcasm was unmistakable.

Julian’s face darkened.

“There are some misunderstandings between us. I’ll explain later.”

“But I’m Mina’s boyfriend. I just want to know where she is right now.”

“I’m really worried about her safety.”

Even now, Julian clung to strong hope that Mina would be okay.

“Worried about her safety? Don’t make me laugh.”

Tessa sneered.

“When you and her best friend teamed up to make her take those fake pills and convinced her she was dying, where was that worry?”

“When you watched her take those so-called targeted therapy pills and get weaker every day, where was that worry?”

“Now you’re here saying pretty words.”

“Julian Hayes, who do you think you’re fooling with this sudden concern?”

Julian’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“What are you talking about? How do you know all this?”

“You’re scared Mina found out, aren’t you?”

Tessa smiled again.

“Actually, she saw through your little scheme a while ago.”

“Here, take a look.”

Tessa handed him a notebook.

On the last page was my goodbye note to Julian.

“Julian, if you’re reading this, it means I’m no longer here.”

“You must be shocked.”

“You thought I believed you died half a year ago.”

“That’s right. For a long time, I really did.”

“I even went to your memorial marker to visit you.”

“I thought you’d be the only one for me in this lifetime.”

“I even bought a dress to be buried in so I could go see you. I barely had any will to live left.”

“I loved you so much, Julian.”

“But look at what you did to me.”

“You and Camille teamed up to trick me.”

“Everything that’s happened to me is because of you two.”

“So stop pretending to care and looking for me.”

“Julian, this is the end for us.”

After reading the last word…

Every drop of blood drained from Julian’s face.

He collapsed onto the floor.

“No, this can’t be.”

“I was so careful. How did Mina… how did she find out?”

“No lie stays buried forever.”

Tessa sighed and shook her head.

“Julian, you killed someone.”

“Now you’ll have to live with it.”

“Karma finally caught up with you.”

With that, Tessa turned and walked away.

Julian’s breathing grew ragged, like he couldn’t get enough air.

Later, he suddenly vomited blood.

Doctors rushed over, but he shoved them away.

“Don’t touch me. I need to find Mina.”

“I’m going to the pier.”

“I need to see them bring her back with my own eyes.”

He ran back to Greyhaven Pier.

He forced the search-and-rescue team to search desperately.

“No matter what it takes, you have to find her.”

“I need to find her, alive or dead.”

For the first time, he felt real regret.

He thought he’d calculated everything perfectly.

He never expected that his calculations would drive someone to the edge.

“Mina, how could you be so stupid?”

The search-and-rescue team worked for two days and nights.

In the end, they only found a pair of my shoes.

Julian clutched them tightly, crying uncontrollably.

“I only wanted the money.”

“You wouldn’t give it to me, so I had to do this.”

“If you’d just signed over the trust fund, none of this would’ve happened.”

“I would’ve still given you the wedding.”

“Even if you found out I tricked you, even if I’m an awful person… you can’t leave like this.”

Julian gripped the blessed medal I’d once given him, breaking down.

“How am I supposed to live, Mina?”

Hearing the news of my death hollowed him out.

Camille had been sad too at first.

But listening to his sobs and watching his reaction, her face gradually darkened.

“Julian, did you fall in love with Mina?”

“Don’t forget, we got close to her for the trust fund from the beginning.”

“That trust fund is worth more than both our families combined.”

“You’re this torn up over her. It’s not just about the money.”

Camille narrowed her eyes.

“You’re really heartbroken, aren’t you?”

Julian wasn’t sure himself.

Was it the trust fund or Mina?

“No, I don’t love her at all.”

He kept denying it.

But images of Mina kept flooding his mind.

How she’d gone to the chapel to light candles for him when he had a fever, praying until dawn.

How she’d said she’d give anything when he almost got in a car accident, as long as he woke up safe.

That was his gentle, kind Minnow.

The one he’d pushed to the edge himself.

He’d made her believe she had stomach cancer for a whole year.

Lying in that hospital room every day, watching her “condition worsen.”

He had no idea how much despair she’d gone through.

How many times she’d hurt herself.

Her mental state pushed to the breaking point.

Thinking about it made the pain in his chest surge.

Blood spilled from his mouth again.

Julian passed out.
