“What?”

“What?!”

Camille and Julian, who’d just arrived at the door, spoke at the same time.

Camille’s face went paper-white as she glanced at Julian, lips trembling.

“Fell into the sea and went missing? When?”

“This afternoon around one.”

Tessa sighed on the phone, her voice full of sorrow.

“She had promised the clinic she’d cooperate with treatment.”

“But ever since she heard about her ex-boyfriend’s death, her mental state has been terrible.”

“She also felt bad about how expensive the medication was every day.”

“She thought she was burdening her best friend.”

“Today she said she was just going for a walk. No one expected her to walk straight into the water from Greyhaven Pier.”

Camille looked like she’d seen a ghost.

“Where? I’m heading there now.”

After hanging up, Tessa sent over a location.

Camille was so panicked she didn’t know what to do with her hands.

When she stood up, she knocked over her coffee.

It spilled all over her new outfit.

Normally she’d lose it over a stained piece of clothing.

But right now she didn’t care.

“Julian, something happened.”

“The clinic just called. Mina’s missing. She walked into the sea at Greyhaven Pier this afternoon.”

Julian clenched his fists, jaw tight.

“No, that’s impossible.”

“I had everything calculated perfectly.”

“Those pills were only supposed to make her look weak. They weren’t supposed to actually hurt her.”

“She should’ve been fine. Why would she walk into the sea?”

He whipped his head toward Camille.

“What about the trust fund?”

“Did Mina sign the beneficiary transfer authorization before she disappeared? Did she transfer it to your name?”

Camille’s face crumpled.

“We were one step away.”

“I never expected something like this to happen.”

“Tomorrow she was supposed to sign it. How could this timing be so bad?”

“No.”

Julian’s face went ice-cold.

“Mina can’t just disappear like this.”

“Where exactly did she go in? Send me the location. We’re going now.”

The sea stretched wide, waves rolling in.

The water beneath Greyhaven Pier was black enough to swallow everything.

But there was no trace of Mina.

Julian narrowed his eyes, suspicion clear on his face.

“Cami, are you sure that nurse’s information is reliable? Did she really fall from here?”

Camille looked up, eyes red.

“Look at this.”

She handed him her phone.

It showed surveillance footage.

The angle perfectly captured the moment I disappeared from the edge of the pier.

The video was a bit shaky, shot by a bystander.

It had already gone viral online.

But only people who knew me would recognize it.

One glance was enough.

It was Mina Caldwell.

“It really is her?”

Julian’s hand shook as he took the phone. His face turned ghostly pale.

“Mina!”

His voice came out hoarse.

“How could you be so stupid?”

“I only ever wanted your money. I never wanted you dead.”

“Why would you walk into the sea?”

“Quick!”

Julian jerked his head up, voice cracking.

“Call the search-and-rescue team. Now.”

“Cami, stay here.”

“I’m going to check Halcyon first.”

Julian didn’t even catch his breath before jumping in the car and slamming the gas.

Camille stared after his retreating car, face ugly.

“Julian, how can you just leave me here alone? Where are you going?”

But the car disappeared around the corner.

Julian ran multiple red lights on the way.

When he reached Halcyon Private Clinic, he looked pale.

He wore a black baseball cap, his pale skin set off by a black shirt that made him look tall and sharp.

Passersby kept turning to stare, thinking he was some low-key movie star.

He rushed straight to my old private room and tore through it, but found nothing.

Breathing hard, he grabbed a nurse.

“Where’s Mina?”

“Wasn’t she in this room? When did she leave?”

Even now, a sliver of hope remained in Julian’s eyes.

He desperately wanted that footage online to be fake.

He wanted the person who vanished from the pier to not be Mina.

“Who are you?”

The nurse gave him a look.

“If you’re not family, I can’t share patient information.”

Julian took a deep breath.

“My name is Julian Hayes.”

“I’m Mina Caldwell’s boyfriend.”

Tessa gave him a strange look and laughed coldly.

“You say your name is Julian Hayes?”

“You’re not dead after all.”
