He Designed A Dream Dress For Her, He Never Designed One For Me Chapter 06

He Designed A Dream Dress For Her, He Never Designed One For Me Chapter 06

The reason was simple: everyone knew Julian had made me postpone our wedding three times.

Without Nathan, I probably would have become the biggest joke in New York City.

People had whispered and laughed behind my back, wondering whether I even had a groom and whether the

repeatedly postponed wedding had been nothing but an elaborate joke.

None of them knew how much pain lay behind those delays.

My parents had put so much into the wedding. They had started out happily sending invitations to all our relatives and friends, only to have to ask everyone to disregard them and send out revised invitations every

time the date changed.

It happened once, then twice, then three times. Eventually, they could barely face our relatives and friends.

That was when I understood that my relationship with Julian should have ended long ago.

After the wedding, Nathan and I went home. Julian was still lingering outside the venue and had yet to leave.

I walked past him hand in hand with Nathan without sparing him a single glance.

Once we got home, Mia called me several times.

“Elise, did Julian go to your place?”

“I haven’t seen him since last night. Everyone is looking for him. Do you know where he went?”

“No,” I said flatly.

Mia suddenly began crying on the other end of the line.

“Elise, I know this is all my fault. I shamelessly came between the two of you.”

“I know you must hate me, but I’m pregnant with Julian’s child. The baby and I truly can’t live without him.”

“If you know where he is, please tell me. You can hit me or curse me all you want, but I can’t lose him.”

No matter what Mia said, my answer remained the same.

“I don’t know.”

“You’re the woman he loves most. How could you not know where he is?”

After returning to New York, Julian cut off contact with everyone.

His close friends couldn’t find him in Paris, so they had no choice but to fly back and search for him.

The following evening, Nathan told me that Julian had been thrown out of a bar.

“He couldn’t get through to you, so he called me instead. Do you want to take the call?”

“He’s been drinking there since yesterday. He caused a scene and wrecked the bar counter. The owner says he’ll call the police if Julian doesn’t pay for the damage.”

Nathan handed me the phone.

After hesitating for a long moment, I answered. Julian’s drunken voice came through the phone, calling my

name over and over.

He used to talk in his sleep and murmur my name throughout the night.

Then he left to study in Milan, and our meetings became less frequent and much shorter.

Even falling asleep beside him became a luxury I rarely had. Eventually, he stopped saying my name

altogether.

“Mia is looking for you. She says she’s worried. Call her back.”

The moment Julian heard my voice, he reacted as though he had just been thrown a lifeline.

“Elise? Elise, is that really you? You finally answered.”

“I called you so many times, but none of my calls would go through.”

“Didn’t you say you wanted to see the northern lights in Iceland? We can leave tomorrow. Then we’ll have our wedding and honeymoon, and we’ll follow the exact itinerary you planned.”

“I’ll design the gown you’ve always wanted right away, too. Elise, please don’t be angry with me anymore.”

Julian rambled through all the plans we had once made together.

So he had remembered everything.

I had assumed he had forgotten, but he had remembered all along and simply pretended otherwise.

He hadn’t followed through on a single one of those plans, and now it was too late.

“Mia is pregnant. You shouldn’t be saying any of this.”

“You’re drunk. Don’t call me again. Go be with her.”

I hung up without hesitation.

Mia eventually found Julian at the bar. She paid for the damage and then took him away.

His clothes were rumpled, and he was passed out drunk. The sight of him startled her.

She had never seen him so disheveled and broken.

“Julian, wake up. What did you do to yourself?”

It took Mia considerable effort to get him home.

I had seen him in that state countless times.

Back when he was rejected by fashion programs in the States, he had been devastated for a long time.

I was the one who stayed beside him and helped him through the darkest period of his life.

I had shared his hardships, but I was never the woman he chose to share his success or his future with.

A week later, I thought the matter had finally come to an end.

Then someone knocked on my door.

I looked through the peephole and saw Julian standing outside, carefully holding a bridal garment bag.

“Elise, I stayed up all night making the gown you wanted. Please open the door and take a look.”
