He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 07

Nikolai took my “body” back to the Rosetti estate.

He did not even place me in the main house.

Instead, he set the coffin in a remote annex chapel.

That place was usually used only for the family’s shameful “special ceremonies” that could not see daylight.

At the same time, Isadora and the boy moved into the master suite.

Postpartum nurses, regular nurses, nannies, private doctors — all of them stayed by her side.

Aldo Rosetti said, “Don’t make this into a scandal. Don’t let any bad omen affect the child.”

“Set the cremation whenever you like. Pick any decent cemetery plot.”

“After all, in name, she was still part of the Rosetti family.”

Nikolai said nothing.

He only stayed inside that temporary memorial room, sitting beside the coffin.

For three full days.

No food. No sleep.

Bianca tried to go in and talk to him.

He had her thrown out.

Isadora came once too.

She held the baby in her arms, her face carrying the perfect amount of sympathy.

“Nikolai, you should let this go.”

“If Aurelia were still here, she would want you to be happy.”

Nikolai raised his head and stared at her with burning eyes.

“Do you think she was happy when she died?”

Isadora froze.

“I was giving birth too. I didn’t know what was happening downstairs—”

“When she died, she was probably still wondering where her husband was.”

“She was probably still wondering why the entire hospital was waiting for your son to be born while no one cared whether she and our daughter lived or died.”

Isadora’s face turned pale.

“Are you blaming me now?”

“I almost died too. The baby’s heart rate stopped three times. You knew that—”

“But you didn’t die.”

Nikolai cut her off calmly.

“She did.”

“She and my daughter both died.”

“I suppose their deaths were not that important. They weren’t boys, after all. Right?”

Isadora fell silent.

She tightened her hold on the infant.

Nikolai rose and walked to the coffin, his fingertips gently brushing the cold wooden lid.

“I keep thinking.”

“If I had been with her then, would the outcome have been different?”

“If I hadn’t emptied the backup operating room for your C-section, would she still be alive?”

“If I had…”

His voice caught. He could not continue.

Isadora bit her lip hard and turned to leave.

At the door, she stopped.

“You had better remember one thing – I gave the Rosetti family what it needed most.”

“Your dead wife? She is already the past.”

The door slammed shut.

Nikolai seemed to lose the last of his strength. He slowly sank to his knees beside the coffin.

He covered his face with both hands, his shoulders shaking violently.

In front of the screen, I quietly watched him fall apart.

How ridiculous.

When I was alive, he treated me like trash.

Now he was weeping over an empty shell.

I picked up my phone and sent my father a message.

“Are you ready?”

Don Cassian replied quickly.

“Only waiting for your word.”
