He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 02

I did not know how long I held on in that basement.

There was blood everywhere.

For a moment, I had the illusion that I was about to drown in it.

Just as my vision began to darken, the iron door was suddenly shoved open.

It was not Bianca.

It was not a guard.

It was Dr. Rowan Hale, my private obstetrician.

The second he saw me, his face turned deathly pale.

“Mrs. Rosetti?”

He could hardly believe his own eyes.

“What happened? Why are you here? Nikolai said you were in the VIP delivery suite!”

I tried to speak, but no sound came out.

I could only lift my trembling hand and point to my stomach as tears spilled uncontrollably down my face.

Dr. Hale dropped to his knees beside me. The moment his hand touched my belly, he froze as if he had been burned.

“God… you’re fully dilated, and your water has broken!”

“You need surgery right now!”

His voice was filled with horror.

He tried to lift me.

But the moment my body moved, the blood beneath me surged harder.

Too much.

So much that his hands began to shake violently.

He shouted down the corridor, “Somebody! She’s hemorrhaging! Get a surgical team now!”

Only dead silence answered him.

This private medical center belonged to the Rosetti family.

Tonight, they had emptied the entire building for Isadora’s delivery.

Every doctor, every nurse, every anesthesiologist, even the emergency blood supply — all of it had been sent to the third floor.

Dr. Hale fumbled for his phone.

No signal.

He clenched his teeth and lifted me into his arms.

“I’m getting you out.”

I used the last of my strength to clutch his sleeve.

“Don’t leave me…”

“I won’t.”

He carried me out of the basement and ran upstairs.

Every step hurt as if it were splitting me open.

I could feel the baby dropping.

But the drugs were still interfering with my contractions, turning everything into broken, violent waves, as if someone were deliberately gripping the path she needed to be born through.

“Dr. Hale… save my baby. Please.”

I clung to his coat, barely able to breathe.

“Do not say that. Both of you will live.”

At last, he reached the first floor and ran straight toward the backup operating room.

But when we arrived at the door, both of us froze.

The door was wide open.

The room was empty.

No surgical lights.

No operating table.

No monitors.

No oxygen tanks.

No equipment. None.

Only bare walls and a few lonely power outlets stared coldly back at us.

Dr. Hale stood frozen, shaking all over. A choked sound came from his throat, as if someone had seized him by the neck.

“This… this is impossible. I checked it myself this afternoon. Everything was here.”

Slow footsteps drifted in from the end of the corridor.

Bianca appeared with two nurses.

There was not the slightest panic on her face. She looked as if her afternoon tea had merely been interrupted.

“Dr. Hale, what are you doing here?”

“Isadora is in the delivery suite on the third floor. Why aren’t you up there?”

Dr. Hale pointed at the empty operating room, his voice breaking.

“Where is the equipment? Where did everything go?”

Bianca put on an innocent expression.

“Moved upstairs, of course.”

“Isadora needs a C-section. She deserves the best equipment. What if something goes wrong?”

“How could a shabby backup operating room like this be worthy of the Rosetti family’s heir?”

Only then did she finally look at me. Her eyes held the lazy arrogance of a winner.

“Wow, Aurelia. You’ve already started delivering?”

“But you’ll have to wait a little longer. Isadora still isn’t finished.”

Her voice dragged out, sweet enough to make me sick.

“Just endure it for a bit, all right?”
