He Cheated, So I Drank the Love Potion Myself Chapter 17

They dragged me all the way back to their house on Staten Island.

The moment the door closed, the screaming began.

My younger brother was curled on the couch, legs crossed, playing a game on his phone as if settling in to watch a show.

The veins on my father’s forehead were bulging.

“Is your brain broken? You dared to ask Reed for a divorce?”

“At your age, do you still think love is going to put food on the table?”

“A husband like Reed is something other women can only dream of. And you, you want to push him away.”

I raised a hand and touched the back of my head.

A large knot was already forming.

I looked up at them.

“The money matters more than I do, doesn’t it?”

My mother let out a sharp, ugly laugh and spat on the floor.

“You? What are you? Without Reed, you’re nothing.”

My whole body went cold.

The disgust and contempt in their eyes were clearer than any curse.

Seeing me silent, they must have thought I was caving, because their lecture intensified.

“What’s the big deal if a man plays around a little?”

“As his wife, you should be taking care of the home, and you should be trying to have a child to secure your position. That’s your job.”

“You should be grateful Reed is still willing to have you.”

Grateful?

The fire that had been smoldering in my chest for two lifetimes finally roared to life.

“Why should I be?”

I shot to my feet and, with all my strength, flipped the coffee table in front of me.

Glass cups, a fruit bowl, an ashtray, and chips crashed and shattered across the floor.
