He Cheated For Three Years And Asked Me To Save Her Baby Chapter 02

Yes.

I had always been good.

Good enough to let Blythe take Brennan.

Good enough that now Calloway wanted me to hand him over too.

I used to think I would never cross paths with any of them again.

Fate had a sick sense of humor.

Because when I went to Briarfall Medical Center for the abortion appointment, I ran into my ex-husband and my current husband, both there with Blythe for her prenatal appointment.

My ears rang.

I took half a step back on instinct.

All three of them looked up at the same time.

The moment they saw me, Brennan and Calloway both moved in front of Blythe.

Protecting her.

Something sharp and sour spread through my chest.

In the end, Blythe was the one who broke the silence.

“Maren? It’s been a long time.”

She stood up.

Brennan immediately reached out to steady her by the waist.

“What are you doing here?” she asked softly. “Are you sick?”

I didn’t answer.

She smiled at me, her gaze drifting from my face to the intake paperwork clenched in my hand.

“Maren, I’ve wanted to apologize to you in person for years.”

Her eyes reddened. Her voice trembled just enough.

“I was jealous of you,” Blythe whispered. “You had a family. Afuture. People who chose you without being asked. I hated how easy you made it look.”

She paused and lowered her lashes.

“Do you know what it’s like to watch someone else get the life you begged for? I hated you. So when you came to me and asked me to be your friend, I didn’t even know what I felt.”

Her eyes lifted again, wetter now.

“I just thought it was cruel. Why did someone who already had everything need to pity me too? So I wanted to take it all from you.”

Calloway frowned. His gaze swept over the forms in my hand before he took off his jacket and draped it over Blythe’s shoulders.

“Enough,” he said. “Your health matters more.”

Blythe pushed Calloway’s hand away and leaned close to my ear.

“But things are different now.”

Her voice dropped so only I could hear.

“Maren Holloway, you can be perfect all you want. You still end up abandoned.”

She gave a soft laugh.

“Sorry, Maren. Looks like I stole another husband.”

Then she lowered her head, her voice breaking.

“Maren, I’m so sorry. Please don’t blame Calloway. This is all my fault.”

I couldn’t take another second of her act.

I lifted my hand to push her away.

My plan barely touched her shoulder.

Blythe was already falling.

Her hands flew to her stomach.

“It hurts.”

Brennan slammed into me first. Calloway followed, knocking me to the floor as they rushed Blythe.

Pain shot through my wrist when I hit the ground.

“Blythe!”

“Get a doctor. Brennan, now!”

A nurse came running with a stretcher.

They lifted Blythe onto it.

Calloway kept her hand locked in his and ran beside the stretcher down the hall.

Then his dress shoes stopped in front of me.

“I warned you.”

“She can’t take any kind of shock right now.”

He crouched down and grabbed my wrist so hard the bones ached.

“If anything happens to that baby, Maren, you’ll answer for it.”

I looked up at him.

His eyes were full of hate.

And I couldn’t find even a trace of the man who had once loved me.
