He Called My Sugar Allergy Jealousy—So I Made Him My Ex Chapter 07

Later, Mom told me Derek and Patricia had both been arrested.

The police came by the hospital and said they’d take my statement once I came to.

I nodded. I didn’t ask about either of them. I didn’t even want to hear their names.

By the third day, I felt a little better.

Even the nurses said I was recovering well.

But the surgery might affect my fertility. I might never get pregnant again.

Mom’s hand trembled when she heard that.

She turned away, pretending not to care.

Dad stood by the window, gripping a pack of cigarettes so tightly his knuckles turned white.

He’d quit smoking three years ago and hadn’t touched a cigarette since.

That day, he stood on the balcony for an hour.

When he came back, he reeked of smoke.

“Clara, once you’re back on your feet, come home with us. We’ll take care of you.”

I looked at him and nodded.

While I was recovering at the hospital, the police came to take my statement.

I told them everything from beginning to end–Derek taking my medication, being locked in the

bathroom, getting thrown into the kennel.

The female officer’s pen never stopped moving.

Then she paused. “You’re saying your husband locked you in a dog kennel?”

“His mother locked you in the bathroom while you were having an allergic reaction?”

I nodded calmly.

The officer looked up at me.

For a moment, I saw a mix of emotions in her eyes sympathy, anger, disbelief.

She said nothing and went back to writing.

When she finished, she closed her notebook and looked at me.

“Ms. Whitmore, your husband and his mother have committed serious criminal offenses.”

“Without your forgiveness, they’ll face the consequences.”

I answered without hesitation. “I won’t forgive them.”

The officer nodded and left.

Mom had made my favorite soup. I was about to take a sip when the door flew open.

Megan stood in the doorway, her hair hanging loose and her eyes red from crying.

Her stomach had started to show, but she wasn’t close to full term.

She looked terrible, like she’d spent hours crying or aging.

The first thing she did was demand, “Clara, where the hell is Derek?”

Mom stepped in front of me. “Who are you?”

“I’m Derek’s…” She hesitated, then said, “I’m his sister.”

I laughed. “His sister? What kind of ‘sister‘?”

Catching the mockery in my voice, Megan clenched her fists.

“I know you hate me, but Derek and I are really in love.”

“He’s gone. I can’t reach him, and nobody’s seen him.”

“I went to your place, but it was locked. I didn’t know what else to do, so I came here.”

I looked at her pitiful face and asked, “If you’re so desperate to find him, what do you want from

him?”

Without hesitation, she placed a hand over her stomach and lifted her chin.

“I’m pregnant. It’s Derek’s.”
