He Called My Sugar Allergy Jealousy—So I Made Him My Ex Chapter 01

My husband didn’t believe I was allergic to sugar. So he deliberately put some sugar in my food.

After eating, red hives broke out all over my body.

I finally got my allergy medication, only to find that the bottle was filled with sugar candies.

“I dumped all your medicine.”

“Megan has low blood sugar. She needs to carry sugar with her. She didn’t have a spare bottle.”

I clutched my chest, gasping for air.

“That’s my emergency medicine! Can’t you just go buy her a bottle?”

My husband Derek didn’t even look at me. He grabbed his car keys and walked out.

“Megan’s my cousin. Stop being jealous of her.”

“Next time you have a real reaction, you might not even know what killed you.”

I grabbed his arm and begged him to take me to the hospital.

He jerked his arm free and slammed the door behind him.

I leaned against the wall as my body slowly slid to the floor.

My face and throat began to swell.

I couldn’t catch my breath. I was too panicked to speak.

These were the early signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Derek’s mother, Patricia, sat nearby, munching on a snack and watching me with disgust.

“Clara, I’m not trying to nag, but Megan and Derek may be distant cousins, yet they grew up together.”

“They’re practically brother and sister. Why are you fighting with her over Derek?”

I’d scratched my arms until they were raw.

I gasped for air and forced the words out.

“Mom, a severe reaction can kill me. Please take me to the hospital.”

But Patricia turned and walked into the kitchen.

“Enough. Save the drama. Derek’s not even here. You’re barking up the wrong tree.”

She grabbed the leftover BBQ ribs and shoved them into my mouth.

“Since you love the drama so much, I’ll knock this crap out of you today.”

The sweet sauce flooded my mouth.

My throat instantly felt like it was being sliced open.

I shoved Patricia away and crawled to the bathroom to make myself throw up.

The moment I finished vomiting, the door slammed shut behind me.

I grabbed the handle, only to find she’d locked it from outside.

“Didn’t you say eating too much sugar would kill you? Let’s see if you actually die today.”

My whole body burned and ached.

My eyelids and neck were swollen beyond recognition.

I started pounding on the door, screaming as I did.

“Fire! Somebody call 911!”

We hadn’t installed soundproofing when we bought the apartment.

Everyone upstairs and downstairs could hear us.

The moment I shouted, Patricia came back.

“Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

“What the hell are you talking about? Filing a false police report can get me arrested.”

“If you get arrested and ruin my grandson’s reputation, I’ll make you pay for it!”

“Grandson?”

How did she know I was pregnant?

But I didn’t have time to think about it.

The swelling was getting worse. My voice grew weaker until I could barely make a sound.

All I could do was pound on the door.

Patricia’s voice grew more distant.

“I’m going to play cards with the neighbors. Scream all you want.”

Another heavy door slam echoed through the apartment.

My heart lurched. Just when I was desperate, my hand suddenly brushed against the phone in my pocket.

I video-called Derek right away.

“Derek, your mom locked me in the bathroom. I’m about to go into shock.”

But Derek just stared at me with cold indifference.

“I told her to lock you in. Nice makeup, but your acting’s still terrible.”

“The doctor said you were fine at your last checkup. I heard him.”

I was about to tell him they hadn’t tested me for allergens that day.

Derek let out a cold laugh and hung up.

“I’m out with Megan. Keep this up, and I’ll divorce you.”

After hanging up, he blocked me so I couldn’t message him anymore.

I’d forgotten to tell him I was pregnant.

And the pain in my stomach felt wrong—deeply wrong.
