He Called Me Dirty, He Was The One Cheating Chapter 04

I walked over and sat in the seat farthest from them.

Mrs. Sterling kept piling food into Lauren’s bowl, grinning from ear to ear.

“Eat more. You’re eating for two now. You can’t be careless. Tell me whatever you’re craving, and I’ll have someone make it for you.”

Lauren thanked her sweetly, touched her flat stomach, and suddenly sighed. “Maybe I should just go, Mrs. Sterling.”

She gave me a timid glance with a flash of smugness in her eyes. “Today is still their wedding anniversary. She must be upset. I should leave first.”

Mrs. Sterling didn’t even lift her eyes. She let out a cold laugh.

“She’s held the title of Mrs. Sterling for three years and hasn’t produced a single child.”

“If Lauren can give the Sterling family an heir, then good for her. Some people with a past like hers should know their place.”

That was the wound I’d spent three years trying to keep buried. It hit me like a slap across the face. I looked at Damon before I could stop myself.

He sat there holding a coffee cup, perfectly calm. He didn’t argue. He didn’t defend me.

He just frowned slightly and said, “Mom, that’s enough.”

Not because he felt sorry for me. He just didn’t want the scene to get uglier and ruin Lauren’s mood.

Lauren’s eyes welled up as she stood. “If she doesn’t want me here, I can leave. I’d never make things harder for Damon.”

Damon immediately set down his cup and shot me a warning look.

“Don’t start with her. She can’t handle stress right now.”

I hadn’t said a single word the entire time.

I looked at the man I’d loved for ten years of my life. And just like that, I was tired. Even breathing felt like too much.

I unzipped my bag, took out the prepared divorce paper, and pushed it across the table.

“Sign it.”

The private room went quiet. Mrs. Sterling froze for a second, then sneered. “A broke little heiress pretending she has principles? Is this some kind of act?”

Damon’s eyes landed on the papers. He didn’t even read them. He just laughed with that cold, superior arrogance.

“All this drama, and this is what you wanted?”

He picked up the settlement and, in front of everyone, ripped it in half with a sharp tear. Then he tossed the pieces onto the floor.

“Elena Sterling, what would you even live on without the Sterling family?”

His tone was certain, as if he were stating an undeniable truth. “Stop playing these little games. Tomorrow, go handle Lauren’s prenatal intake.”

Lauren immediately stood and walked over, pretending to reach for my hand. “Elena, it’s all my fault. Don’t be mad at Damon…”

I stepped back on reflex. But Lauren suddenly let out a shriek and threw herself against me.

In the chaos, my bracelet cracked against the corner of the table.

I froze and slowly crouched down to pick up the pieces.

It was the only thing my mother had left me. But Damon was already striding over, shoving me away.

He helped Lauren up with trembling urgency.

“Did she hit your belly? Are you hurt?”

Lauren leaned into his arms, tears streaming down her face. “I’m fine. Don’t blame her. She didn’t mean it.”

Damon turned to me, his eyes like ice. “Elena Sterling, if anything happens to this baby, I will never forgive you.”

I held the broken pieces of the bracelet, and the sharp edges cut my fingertips until they bled.

I remembered my mother telling me before she died that I should marry someone who truly cherished me.

I used to think Damon was that person.
