He Called Me Dirty, He Was The One Cheating Chapter 03

His gaze dropped to Lauren’s stomach, and his expression turned complicated.

“She might be pregnant.”

…

Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The smell of antiseptic filled the OB-GYN corridor.

I knew that smell too well.

Three years ago, Damon had made me do eight gynecological exams here.

I still remembered the humiliation of lying on that cold exam table every time, the instruments probing my body.

I sat on a bench in the waiting area and stared at the electronic patient board on the wall.

“Lauren Vance, exam room three.”

The nurse’s voice echoed down the corridor.

Lauren stood up and shoved her designer bag, worth tens of thousands of dollars, into my hands.

“Hold this for me, Elena.”

She looked down at me with a mocking smile tugging at the corner of her lips.

“Damon said you know this place better than anyone. That’s why I made him send you with me.”

I didn’t take the bag. She didn’t get mad. She tossed it onto the chair and leaned close to my ear.

“You can’t really blame Damon. Any man would have a problem with your situation.”

“An accident in high school gym class? Even I don’t buy that excuse, let alone him.”

She let out a soft laugh and walked into the exam room, leaving me alone on the bench.

I folded my hands on my knees. My fingertips were ice cold.

Half an hour later.

Lauren came out holding a lab report, unable to hide the smugness in her eyes.

The nurse followed her and glanced at me.

“Family member? You can pay at the front desk. Is the father not here today?”

Before I could speak, Lauren pulled out her phone.

Right in front of me, she called Damon. And she put it on speaker.

“Damon, the results are back.” Her voice was sugary and pouty.

On the other end, Damon’s voice was low but tense.

“What did they say?”

“The doctor says I’m six weeks along.”

Damon’s breath caught. After a long pause, he said softly, “Then we’re keeping it. Don’t be scared. I’ll take care of everything.”

I sat nearby, and my heart ached with a sharp, drilling pain.

Three years ago, I tried to explain that my hymen had torn by accident. All I got back was his cold scrutiny and endless humiliation.

After our wedding night, Damon never touched me again. I never got the chance to become a mother. But she got it so easily.

Lauren hung up and looked at me. “Did you hear that, sis? Damon says he’ll take care of everything.”

I stood and picked up my purse. “Congrat.”

Today was actually my third wedding anniversary with Damon.

Inside my bag was a gift I hadn’t had the chance to give him last night.

A pair of limited-edition onyx cufflinks he’d spent months searching for.

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Damon. [Book us a table somewhere quiet tonight. Lauren can’t handle anything too heavy right now. I’ll head over after my meeting.]

I stared at the words on the screen for a long time.

Then I replied with one word. [Okay.]

At seven that evening, I pushed open the private room door at Skyline Restaurant with a printed divorce settlement in my hand.

The atmosphere inside was warm and cheerful.

Damon, Lauren, and Mrs. Sterling were already seated.

Damon looked up at me and frowned slightly, as if annoyed that I was late.

“My mother is here. Don’t ruin tonight.” He warned me in a low voice, as if I were the outsider ruining the mood.
