He Called Me Dirty, He Was The One Cheating Chapter 02

“When you’re done, send me the report.”

I thought that was the last test before marriage. As long as I could prove myself, he would love me.

Later I learned that was only the beginning of three years of humiliation.

“Fine. Got it.” I looked away and turned back to the window.

Damon seemed satisfied with how easily I gave in.

His voice softened, which caught me off guard. “Tomorrow’s Saturday. I’ll take you to get that necklace you’ve been wanting.”

“No thanks.”

He didn’t push. He dropped me off at home and left in a hurry.

I went inside and called my assistant.

“Draft the divorce settlement for me tonight. Also prepare my resignation from Sterling Corp.”

It was eleven at night.

The front door lock clicked.

Damon came in carrying a completely wasted Lauren in his arms.

“She’s drunk. A girl alone in a hotel isn’t safe, so I brought her back.”

He set Lauren down on the sofa and looked at me standing at the foot of the stairs. His tone was matter-of-fact.

“Go to the kitchen and make her something to sober up.”

“We don’t have any hangover medicine,” I said.

Damon’s frown deepened, and his tone sharpened.

“Then make her something warm. Soup, oatmeal, whatever. Her stomach’s sensitive. You’re always good at that kind of thing, aren’t you?”

He shrugged off his coat and laid it over Lauren with a careful, gentle motion.

“Hurry up. Don’t make her suffer longer than she has to.”

I turned and walked into the kitchen.

After we got married, I personally picked out every single curtain, every dish, every candle.

I thought if I could make this house warm enough, Damon would eventually come closer to me.

For three years, I ate alone, worked late alone, and guarded this empty house alone.

But now another woman had walked in and made herself at home.

When I carried the oatmeal out, Damon was crouching in front of the sofa, wiping Lauren’s face with a warm towel.

His touch was light, careful not to hurt her.

“Put it on the table. Go to bed first.” He didn’t even turn around. All his attention stayed on that girl.

I set down the bowl and went upstairs.

That night, I lay in the wide king bed in the master bedroom.

In the middle of the night, I was woken by a faint, rustling noise.

I got up and opened the door. The guest room at the end of the hall was slightly ajar, and dim yellow light leaked through.

“Damon, my head hurts so much.”

“Shh, drink some water. It’ll help. I told you not to drink so much, but you wouldn’t listen.”

The man’s voice was low and tender, filled with a patience and affection I had never heard.

I stood there until my legs went numb, then turned and went back to my room.

The next morning.

When I came downstairs, Lauren was sitting at the dining table eating breakfast.

She was wearing my silk pajamas. The ones I’d bought last month and hadn’t even worn yet.

“Morning, Elena.” She stirred her oatmeal and smiled at me like she hadn’t done a thing wrong.

“My clothes got dirty last night, and Damon found me something of yours. You don’t mind, right?”

I walked over and poured myself a glass of warm water. “Since you like taking my leftovers, consider it charity.”

Lauren’s expression froze for a second. Then she smiled again.

Damon came out of the study with car keys in his hand.

He glanced at me. “Elena, I need you to take Lauren to the hospital for a checkup later. I have an important meeting this morning and can’t get away.”

My fingers tightened around the glass.

“What checkup?”

Damon was silent for two seconds.
