He Asked for a Divorce, Then Begged Me to Marry Him Again After I Moved On Chapter 15

My head injury was relatively minor.

After twenty-four hours of observation, I was discharged.

On the third day, I arrived at the upscale restaurant for my scheduled blind date.

My mother hadn’t lied to me this time.

Nathan Whitmore was exceptional in appearance, speech, career, and background.

At twenty-eight, he was a professor at Stanford University, three years older than me.

Throughout our conversation, his tone remained warm and polished, though it was hard to tell if he was genuinely interested in me.

My seat faced the restaurant entrance directly.

Halfway through our meal, a familiar figure entered my view.

Serena, carrying a canvas bag, walked up to the front desk. “Hello, are you hiring part-time

servers?”

She had likely been fired from her job at the bar.

She seemed experienced in seeking employment, knowing that high-end establishments offered better hourly pay.

“We are hiring. Leave your contact info, and our manager will schedule an interview.”

Serena looked delighted, but as she turned around, her eyes met mine.

Her footsteps froze, and she walked straight toward our table.

“Claire, why isn’t Ethan with you today?”

“Aren’t you worried he’ll be jealous if you’re dining alone with another man?”

Nathan raised his eyes.

Serena smiled faintly.

“Are you two on a blind date?”

“My mistake then. I assumed you and Ethan had gotten back together.”

“After all, you were together for so many years and almost got married. Your bond must run deep.”

I cut a piece of broccoli and ate it calmly.

“Do you think everyone enjoys double-dealing like you do?”

Serena turned her attention to Nathan.

“Sir, you’re in for a treat if you stay with Claire.”

“You’ll get to enjoy her sharp tongue every single day.”

I had already abandoned expectations for this date.

Exposing Nathan to such a dramatic scene would hardly leave anyone with a good impression of

Nathan sliced a portion of steak and swapped his plate with mine, smiling smoothly.

“So you two haven’t gotten back together.”

“That’s a relief. That means I still have a chance.”

I was stunned.

The smile froze completely on Serena’s face.

Nathan set down his fork and knife. “It might sound abrupt, and it could startle you.”

“But I truly fell in love with you at first sight.”

I found myself unusually at a loss for words.

“…Thank you.”

He glanced at Serena. “And who might this be?”

I paused to organize my phrasing.

“t’s complicated. My ex-fiancé used to be one of the men she managed simultaneously.”

“Or rather, she is the non-biological sister who gets to kiss my ex-fiancé on the cheek.”

Nathan nodded in immediate comprehension.

“A manager of men and a non-biological sister. Sounds like a rather complex roleplay hobby.”

Serena’s face turned crimson.

“Claire!”

“Excuse me,” Nathan signaled to a nearby waiter. “There are uninvolved individuals disturbing our dinner.”

floor manager hurried over immediately.

Nathan spoke calmly, “Are you certain your establishment wishes to hire this young lady?”

“Perhaps I should check with your regional director, Mr. Lin, whether your recruitment standards

have become this lax.”

Unsure how to handle the situation, the manager apologized profusely.

“So you are an acquaintance of Mr. Lin, Professor Whitmore.”

“Please rest assured, customer satisfaction is our top priority.”

“Since this young lady offended a VIP member before even being hired, we certainly will not

employ her.”

Serena’s expression shifted dramatically. “Manager, I…”

“Ms. Collins, if you don’t leave immediately, I will have security escort you out.”

Serena was promptly escorted out.

Nathan adopted a slightly apologetic tone. “I hope you don’t find me overly petty.”

I rested my chin on my hand, watching his dramatic defense with a smile.

“Her presence was ruining your mood.”

“If her actions made you feel this was a bad date, stopping her from getting hired here is the most gentlemanly thing I could do.”

I let out a soft laugh.

It turned out Nathan Whitmore wasn’t quite as harmlessly gentle as he appeared.
