He Asked for a Divorce, Then Begged Me to Marry Him Again After I Moved On Chapter 02

Compared to seeing other people, the growth of Bennett Technologies was far more urgent to me.

At this point, Ethan and I were running a young startup.

Rebirth didn’t mean we had a magic wand.

Ethan and I worked just as hard as we had in our previous life.

Once again, I worked late until ten-thirty at night.

Standing on the curb trying to hail a cab, I pulled my coat tightly around myself.

Only then did I realize winter had arrived.

Three months had passed since our rebirth.

A familiar car pulled up slowly in front of me.

The window rolled down, revealing Serena leaning against the frame.

Ethan, sitting in the driver’s seat, looked over at me.

“There won’t be any cabs around here at this hour.”

“Get in. We’ll drop you off.”

Serena was currently dating a trust fund kid.

For now, Ethan was stuck in the friend zone.

Still, the two were extremely close. Whenever Serena had no classes, she often came to the office to hang out with Ethan.

Hearing his offer, Serena showed a look of hesitation.

“Ethan, our dinner reservation is coming up soon.”

She turned back to look at me.

“Claire, how about we drop you at the nearest subway station?”

I shook my head and declined politely.

“Thanks, but no need.”

“It’s easier to grab a ride at the main intersection. I’ll wait over there for a bit. It’s not too late, so there should be cabs.”

“You two go ahead.”

Ethan tapped his fingers against the steering wheel.

“Text me when you get home then.”

“Or send me the license plate when you get in a car.”

Serena stopped smiling and lowered her head to play with her phone.

I said okay.

Ethan still didn’t drive off.

His gaze fell on my pale, chilled fingers, and he spoke casually.

“Do you want my coat?”

Serena took a deep breath. “Ethan, we’re really going to be late.”

I told Ethan, “It’s fine. Don’t bother.”

“Hurry along. I’m going to the intersection now.”

Ethan gave a slight nod.

He pressed the gas pedal and drove away slowly.

As the taillights faded, I turned around and walked in the opposite direction.

After waiting at the intersection for nearly twenty minutes, I finally flagged down a cab.

When I got home, I didn’t send Ethan a text.

I made a cup of ginger tea and replied to a work message in the company group chat.

It was an indirect way of letting him know I was home safely.

Given our current relationship, it was no longer appropriate to text him privately about such things.

Ethan didn’t message me to ask, either.
