Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 10

Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 10

The moment the word “please” left my mouth, Ethan fled in near panic.

After that day, I never saw Ethan again.

My life finally seemed to return to peace.

The only news I received about Ethan came from a TV report.

Lila’s family had found out about what happened.

Her entire family showed up to confront Ethan and pressure him into marrying Lila.

“You took my daughter’s innocence. If you don’t marry her, what is she supposed to do?”

“That’s right. Who would ever marry my daughter after this?”

They had brought reporters with them, and the cameras captured the entire scene.

Once the video was released, it caused a wave of public discussion.

The scandal became too big to contain. The Holt family had no choice but to step forward

and agree to the marriage.

But no one expected Lila to miscarry unexpectedly.

To give her time to recover, the wedding was postponed until the following year.

When the news report ended, I stopped watching and turned off the TV.

The first snow came early that year. When I opened the window, everything outside was

blanketed in white.

I could not quite describe what I felt.

The only thing I knew for certain was that I was not sad.

Time passed, and another Christmas arrived.

I got up early and prepared flowers and small keepsakes with Mrs. Carter before visiting the

graves of the children who had died from illness.

I had walked that path for many years.

Compared to the first time I came here and saw the hillside covered with graves, I felt much

calmer this time.

Mrs. Carter’s voice sounded beside me. “Are you still scared this year?”

In the past, every time I came here, a chill would run through my whole body, and I would

have nightmares that night.

Now, I only felt sorry for them. I shook my head and answered honestly.

“No. They were all children abandoned by their families who died from illness in the end.

There’s nothing to be scared of.”

“Besides, the younger kids are still too young, and the ones who grow up still leave. If I don’t come, you’ll be the only one visiting them. That would be so lonely.”

Just as she had when I was little, Mrs. Carter gently patted my head.

When we came down from the hillside cemetery and returned to the group home, I saw

someone.

He felt unfamiliar, yet somehow familiar.

His gaze fell on me, but he did not speak first.

I thought he might have something to say.

Seeing that Mrs. Carter did not stop, I kept walking, too.

After only a few steps, I heard a woman scream, “You came to see her again? Then what am I

to you?”

The man impatiently shook her off. “Didn’t I marry you at city hall, just like you wanted? What

more do you want?”

“You forced me to marry you. Now whatever I do, you’ll just have to live with it.”

Their argument grew louder and louder. I could not help turning back, only to meet the man’s

red-rimmed eyes.

Mrs. Carter stopped and looked at me. “What are you thinking about?”

I shook my head, denying that I was thinking about anything, but I could not help saying it

anyway.

“The two of them look so pitiful.”

Mrs. Carter asked, “Why do you think that?”

“They don’t look like they love each other.”

Being with someone you did not love and becoming a family with them sounded far too

bitter.

Fortunately, I did not have to do that.

I could stay by Mrs. Carter’s side for the rest of my life.
