Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 02

Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 02

After the date entry, there was a card Mrs. Carter, the director of the children’s group home, had left for me, along with a short message.

[If you ever get hurt, remember to come home. The doors of the group home will always be open to you.]

I picked it up. It felt as if I had been drifting at sea and had finally found my way back to shore.

After I calmed down, I booked a plane ticket for the day of the wedding.

Then I began planning the “gift” I would give Ethan at the ceremony.

I went home alone. The moment I turned on the lights, the first thing I saw was the flowers arranged in the living room.

All at once, I remembered what I had written in my journal about the first time I met Ethan.

I was twenty that year. For the sake of the younger kids at the group home, I had given up my chance to go to college and taken a job at a flower shop.

Whenever the store manager was away, men would take advantage of the fact that I was alone.

When I crouched down to pick up flowers, they would stare straight at me.

Some of them would even reach out and deliberately touch my thigh.

That was when Ethan appeared. He yanked the man up with one hand and kicked him out.

Before the man could say anything, Ethan threatened him first, “If you dare make a scene, I’ll pull the security footage and send you straight to the police.”

The man fled in panic. After that, Ethan became my only friend.

Later, after we got together, Ethan bought fresh flowers every day and put them in a vase.

He called it his way of commemorating the day we met.

Today, for the first time, the flowers in the vase had rotted.

They looked just like what had become of my relationship with Ethan.

My eyes stung. I looked away and did not look at them again.

After lying down in bed, I tossed and turned for a long time, unable to fall asleep.

The bedroom door suddenly swung open. I jolted up from the bed and turned to see Ethan.

Standing behind him was his secretary, Lila Bennett.

Ethan had not meant to scare me. A trace of guilt flashed in his eyes as he explained, “Lila wanted to apologize to you about the baby. She said she wouldn’t be able to sleep otherwise.”

“She got caught in the rain. I’m going to get her a change of clothes. You two can talk.”

With that, Ethan turned and left.

Lila, who had looked apologetic just a moment ago, instantly carried herself like the woman of the house.

She looked around, touched the furniture, and nodded. “Not bad. Looks like I’ll be able to move right in later.”
