Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 08

Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 08

When I returned to the children’s group home, Mrs. Carter’s eyes reddened the moment she

saw me.

The younger kids I knew so well crowded around me.

Seeing that I had come back alone, Mrs. Carter did not ask any questions. She simply made

me something good to eat and got a room ready for me to sleep in.

Every day after that, I helped Mrs. Carter take care of the younger kids.

I played games with them, cooked for them, and hung laundry on the line with Mrs. Carter.

It was almost as if everything between Ethan and me had been nothing but a dream, and I

had never left the group home at all.

That would have been true if Ethan had not shown up.

I saw Ethan when Mrs. Carter and I were coming back from a grocery run.

He was still dressed in a suit, standing straight at the entrance of the group home.

Hearing the sound behind him, he turned around.

The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up, and his voice sounded almost aggrieved.

“Sylvia, I finally found you.”

I had told Ethan I was an orphan who grew up in a children’s group home.

But I had never told him which one.

I had not expected him to find me, and I had not expected him to come so quickly.

Not wanting Mrs. Carter to worry, I asked her to go inside first. Then I pulled Ethan aside.

My voice was calm and emotionless. “What are you doing here?”

This was the first time I had ever been this cold to Ethan.

Even when I had lost my memory before, I had still been curious about him.

Ethan’s body stiffened. He lowered his head and pleaded, “Sylvia, don’t treat me like this.”

“Then how do you want me to treat you?”

“Do you want me to stay with you, forget that you slept with another woman, and watch another woman give birth to your child?”

“Ethan, I may forget things, but that doesn’t mean I can’t feel pain.”

After saying everything that needed to be said, I turned and walked back toward the group

home.

But Ethan grabbed my hand and gave in. “If you don’t want her to have that baby, I’ll make her terminate the pregnancy. If you never want to see her again, I can send her out of the country

right away. Please don’t leave me. I really don’t want us to end.”

I stared at Ethan in disbelief.

He was clearly the one who had done something wrong, yet now he was making me the

villain.

But the Ethan from before had not been like this.

The reason I had first decided to be friends with him was because he had dared to take

responsibility for what he did.

The day after that man harassed me and ran away in humiliation, he brought people to the flower shop.

The shop was full of people that day. The man held up a metal rod and shouted, “Which little

bastard hit me yesterday?”

Afraid Ethan would get hurt, I pushed him toward the back door.

But he stood where he was without moving. He even comforted me, saying, “Don’t be afraid. Nothing is going to happen.”

Then Ethan walked out of the crowd. “I’m the one you’re looking for. Don’t hurt anyone who has nothing to do with this.”

The harsh sunlight had fallen over Ethan that day, and somehow, the sight had felt strangely

right.

It was nothing like now, when he only felt like a stranger to me.

I pulled my hand free. My voice was very soft, but unusually firm.

“Ethan, we can’t go back to the way we were.”

“Don’t come here again.”
