Five Years As An Amnesiac Bride Chapter 06

Gasps erupted all around them.

Whether or not they had ever met her, everyone present knew that today’s bride was

supposed to be Sylvia Hayes, not Lila Bennett.

Ethan’s presence was too intimidating. Lila could not help shrinking back.

With no confidence at all, she explained, “Sylvia wanted to switch places with me.”

Ethan rejected it on instinct.

“That’s impossible!”

Sylvia loved him so much. How could she do something like this?

Besides, they had already agreed that it would only be for one year.

Seeing that no one believed her, Lila told them what had happened that day.

The day I asked Lila to meet me, the sky was bright and clear.

Knowing Ethan was in a meeting at the office, I went to the hospital.

When Lila saw me, she looked fully on guard and protected her stomach with both hands. “There are cameras everywhere. If you dare do anything to my baby, I won’t let you get away

with it. Ethan won’t either.”

I ignored her words and said calmly, “I just want to talk to you. It concerns you, and it

concerns the baby you’re carrying.”

Perhaps because my reaction was too calm, Lila followed me to a café near the hospital.

I got straight to the point. “Ethan and I are about to have our wedding.”

Lila tightened her grip around the cup in front of her. Before she could speak, I added

something else.

“I’m willing to step aside for the two of you. On the day of the wedding, you’ll become the

bride, and I’ll leave.”

Lila froze. It took her a long while to come back to herself, and she looked at me with

suspicion all over her face.

“I don’t believe you’d be that kind.”

I turned my head and looked at the people passing by outside the window. In a low murmur, I

said, “I’m not doing this out of kindness. I’m just completely disappointed, and I don’t want to

keep going anymore.”

After saying that, I stood up and told Lila, “Makeup starts at five on Monday morning. I’ll be

waiting for you.”

When Ethan heard the words “completely disappointed,” his throat went dry and tight.

It took him a long while to find his voice again. “Then where is she? Where is she now?”

Lila shook her head. “She didn’t tell me.”

Only then did Ethan notice that many of Sylvia’s things were missing from the bedroom.

As if realizing something, he immediately took out his phone and called his assistant. “Find

Sylvia’s flight. No matter what it takes, stop her before that plane takes off.”

After hanging up, Ethan smashed the bedroom to pieces.

With bloodshot eyes, he looked at Lila. “Didn’t I tell you that aside from the baby, you were not

allowed to covet anything that didn’t belong to you?”

Lila burst into tears at once.

Over the past few days, Ethan had stayed by her side.

No matter what she wanted, Ethan found it for her.

She had thought she mattered to him.

Only now did she realize she did not.

He had truly only been taking responsibility.

The bedroom was so quiet it felt suffocating.

Ten minutes later, his assistant called. In a low voice, he said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Holt. I couldn’t find any flight information for Ms. Hayes, and there was nothing at the train station either.”
