Everyone Wanted Me Dead After Watching One Video Chapter 03

I stayed in the hospital for a few more days. My mother and sisters were nowhere to be seen, probably off enjoying themselves.

Fortunately, my father returned from his business trip. He came straight from the airport to the hospital. His eyes filled with pain as he looked at my injuries, and he gently touched my head. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I should’ve been here. I should’ve stopped her. But your mother… I can’t reason with her. I don’t know how to make her stop.”

He was so overcome with guilt that tears fell. But I didn’t blame him. He was the only one in the family who was truly good to me, who never abandoned me. He always stepped in to shield me from Mom’s violence.

But she was still his wife; he couldn’t exactly send her to prison. He did his best to protect me, but he was often away.

Still, his love gave me a reason to keep going. Over the years, I’d thought about leaving countless times, but it was my father’s love that made me stay.

Thinking of the video, I grabbed his hand. “Dad, can you promise me something?”

He nodded with a soft smile. “Of course. Anything.”

I looked intently into his eyes. “Dad, you must never watch the video on Mom’s phone. You must never leave me.”

“What video on your mother’s phone?”

“Just promise me you won’t watch it!”

“Okay, okay, I promise. I won’t watch it.”

“You’ll love me forever?”

“Forever and always.”

He finally agreed. I thought, as long as he didn’t watch it, there would still be someone in this world who loved me.

He even said that if I wanted, he’d buy me a new place and keep my whereabouts from my mother, so I could escape her abuse. I agreed.

But I never expected that my father, who promised so sincerely, would go back on his word the very next day.

When I was discharged, he didn’t come to pick me up. I figured he was busy and didn’t think much of it.

Limping back home, a glass vase came flying at me the moment I stepped inside, hitting my still-injured arm. I gasped in pain.

My mother sat on the couch, glaring. “Why didn’t you just die out there!”

Hurt and wronged, I looked to my father, who was sitting nearby. But this time, he said nothing.

My mother’s eyes lit up, cold and sharp. She yanked the crutch right out from under me, and I hit the floor hard, the air knocking out of me.

I looked up, tears blurring her face. “Why, Mom?” My voice broke. “Haven’t you hurt me enough? Do you really need me gone… to finally be happy?”

She spat and swung the crutch down onto my back. “I do wish you were dead! Why did you have to come back and ruin my day?”

Blow after blow rained down on me, my screams echoing through the house. My father remained seated, reading his newspaper, making no move to stop her.

Finally, I cried out to him. “Dad! Daddy, save me!”

I hoped he would rush to my defense like before. But he didn’t.

He just said flatly, “You know how she gets when she’s upset. Just let her vent.”

His words struck me like a thunderbolt. The last string of hope in my mind snapped completely. Had he… seen the video too?

Through my sobs, I accused him. “Dad, did you watch the video? But you promised me you wouldn’t! You said you’d help me move out!”

After I screamed those last words, I thought I saw my mother’s hand tremble slightly.

My father walked over impatiently and kicked me. The way he looked at me was like I was a stranger, none of the old affection remained.

“What video? You’re making things up. Maybe you need to be taught a lesson. Maybe letting your mother finish what she started is the best thing for everyone.” He, too, wanted me dead. I knew then he must have seen it. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be like this.

Just then, my two sisters came home. As usual, they cast a cold glance at me lying on the floor and went straight to their rooms.

I don’t know how much time passed before my mother finally stopped, exhausted. Then my father put his arm around her waist and helped her to their bedroom.

This fresh beating worsened my unhealed wounds. Everyone was indifferent to my suffering. And I still didn’t even know what crime I was supposedly guilty of.

The ground fell away. A cold, hollow silence swallowed me whole. My father, the one person I thought was mine had just handed me over. There was nothing left to hold onto. No reason to stay.

I packed my bags, planning to leave in the dead of night.

Carrying my luggage, I crept past the study in the dark and noticed light seeping through the crack under the door. Almost against my will, I tiptoed to the door and pushed it open a sliver.

Inside, I saw my mother’s phone playing that video. I peeked, and what I saw was a sight I would never forget for the rest of my life.

Now I knew why my mother wanted me dead!!!
