Divorced & Dying The Mafia Boss Regrets Everything Chapter 18

Dominic dropped to his knees with a thud. He lunged forward, his hands trembling as he yanked out the needle and threw it aside.

Her arms, thin as sticks, were covered in bruises–a sight that tore at the heart.

“…Grace, don’t sleep, Grace!”

Someone so light should have been easy to lift, but Dominic’s legs shook uncontrollably. He stumbled to his feet, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst.

He raced down the narrow stairwell, not stopping for a moment, heading for the ambulance waiting below. Medical staff rushed forward, but he still wouldn’t let her out of his sight.

“Mr. Dominic… Mr. Dominic! Let go–the patient is in shock!”

Dominic snapped out of it. His fingers were pried open, and the little warmth left vanished the moment he

released her.

The defibrillator pads were pressed against her chest, where her ribs showed. Dominic’s own breath trembled. If anything else went wrong, he wouldn’t be able to bear it.

But what you fear most always comes.

“Hurry! The patient has no pulse!”

Dominic’s mind went blank. He froze, unable to move, afraid to look.

A nurse stepped back to get medication.

He saw the oxygen mask covering nearly all of Grace’s face.

Beneath it, her face was sickly white.

Sound flooded back into his ears. Dominic came to himself; he realized he had bitten the tip of his tongue at some point, and the taste of blood filled his mouth. He forced a hoarse voice from his throat.

“Grace… Grace, I’m begging you, don’t do this to me…”

He had only just found her, and he was about to lose her forever.

Dominic felt his heart cut into pieces that would never be whole again.

On Grace’s pale knuckles, an even paler ring marked where her wedding band had been. Dominic laced his fingers through hers and held on tight.

Trying in vain to warm her with his body heat.

Su amante embarazada de el. Divorcio. Me fui con mi hijo.

A shot of adrenaline pulled her back from the edge, but the moment the ambulance stopped, another battle began

Dominic stood by the whole time, watching until they wheeled her into the emergency room. Then he was plunged into a new nightmare. The emptiness in his eyes was beyond words.

Finnegan, who had just left, rushed back at the news. He made his way toward Dominic step by step on his cane, followed by his son still holding the baby, and Henry, who stood dazed behind them, all watching the emergency room light come on.

They couldn’t hide their distress.

They had agreed to get ready to move back, and they had already assembled the best medical team.

Now she was in the emergency room.

“She–she was fine just a moment ago…” Finnegan felt terrible. He blamed himself for not thinking ahead.

If he had known, he would have taken her with him then and there. He slapped his thigh. “What a mess.

What a mess.”

Henry’s eyes were red. He silently prayed for Grace.

The two of them watched Dominic, who kept facing the emergency room door. Seeing him silent, they

looked at each other, unsure what to say.

Until someone stumbled up, grabbed Dominic by the collar, and demanded in English, “What did you do!?”

“She was fine when I left!”

Dominic stood motionless, taking a punch to the face. Finnegan tried to step in, but his son held him back.

Liam’s eyes were red; he had clearly been crying. Dominic looked at him and said slowly, “She was about to kill herself with sedatives. Is that what you call taking care of her?”

Liam’s eyes wavered. “That’s impossible…”

Then he heard Dominic’s hoarse voice.

“There were three vials on the floor. When I got there, there was only a little left in the syringe…”

Just a little.

If Dominic had been a moment later, Grace would have gone into shock and died.

Liam went completely still.

Dominic was consumed with regret. If only he had come a little sooner, would Grace be safe?

If anything happened to her, he would never forgive himself.
