Dad’s Secret Daughter Called Herself Heiress, But Mom’s Family Owned Everything Chapter 08

“Family?” Mom raised an eyebrow. “You are definitely not family to us. And my daughter is more than accomplished—she’s a state scholarship winner. She’s no less than you.”

“A state scholarship winner?” Tara stared at me, her eyes widening in disbelief.

Imitating Mom, I raised an eyebrow as well. “That’s right. Did you honestly think wealthy kids don’t work hard? You don’t need to worry about my family’s businesses. More importantly, you owe my mother an apology.”

I turned to face her squarely. “You slandered my mother as a homewrecker just now. You owe her an apology.”

Seeing me stand up for her, a flash of pride and comfort swept through Mom’s eyes.

Tara muttered under her breath, “Even if your mom isn’t a mistress, she still cheated on my dad. The fact that you aren’t his daughter is the ultimate proof of that, isn’t it?”

When Mom saw that she still wouldn’t back down, her gaze darkened.

“Frankly, this is none of your business, and I didn’t owe you an explanation. But you’ve been relentless in attacking my husband over it, so here’s the truth.”

Mom walked slowly over to Dad’s side and began recounting the events from years ago.

It turned out that in her youth, Mom had been fiercely against the idea of marriage.

Because everyone who approached her had been after her massive family fortune, and her past boyfriends had made no secret of their desire to take half her assets after marriage.

Disgusted by their greed, Mom had decided she would never marry and chose to have a child through IVF instead.

But fate took a cinematic turn.

She crossed paths with Dad at the very hospital where she was undergoing the IVF process.

Dad’s family business had just gone bankrupt, forcing him to see the true colors of everyone around him overnight. Completely devastated, he had gotten into a car accident after drinking, which led to their chance encounter.

Seeing that Mom was pregnant, Dad assumed she had been abandoned by a toxic ex and felt a deep sense of sympathy, choosing to stay and take care of her.

Impressed that Dad treated her so well without even knowing her identity, Mom fell for him.

And just like that, they ended up together.

Dad didn’t even find out Mom was a billionaire until after I was born.

He had nearly fainted from shock.

Even so, Mom decided to test his intentions one last time.

She asked him if he was willing to become a live-in husband for the Morrison family. He would have to take her family’s name and would have no legal right to any of her assets, as everything would be left entirely to her child.

Most men would have rejected those terms immediately, viewing them as a direct insult to their dignity.

But Dad agreed to every single condition.

“I didn’t choose to be with you for the money. I’m with you because I love you and I care about you. I don’t care if I don’t get a share of the property; it was never mine to begin with anyway. Besides, you won’t let me starve. I might as well just enjoy being taken care of.”

Mom’s guard came down at those words and she happily married him.

After the wedding, Dad legally changed his last name right away, cementing his role as a live-in husband.

Mom had the decency never to air this in public. But a handful of people in their social circle were in the know, and they’d often sneer at Dad in private.

Dad, however, couldn’t have cared less.
