Carter lost it.

He slammed his desk so hard the whole thing shook.

“ENOUGH, Jade! You’re out of your damn mind!”

Jade jumped but held her ground.

“You’re yelling at me! See?! You don’t love me! You’re still hung up on that bitch!”

“Mia and I are over!” Carter’s voice came out raw. His face was red. “You keep dragging her into this, stirring up drama, making everything worse-you’re destroying what’s left!”

Jade’s lip trembled but she didn’t back down.

“You won’t say it! You still want her!”

“I want the truth, Carter!”

Something in him snapped.

He stared at her. Breathing hard. Eyes dead.

“You want the truth? Fine.”

His voice went ice-cold.

“Chasing you was the dumbest thing I ever did. I thought you’d fix everything. Thought I’d get it all-the company, the

money, you.”

He stepped closer.

“And what do I have now? My company’s dying. My reputation’s shot. And I’m stuck listening to you lose your mind!”

He leaned in, voice dropping to a snarl.

“You wanna know who I pick? Nobody. I’m done. You make me sick. This whole thing’s a disaster.”

He paused.

“Did I ever love you? No. Not once. The only person I’ve ever loved? Mia. She’s the only one who ever mattered.”

He practically spat the last words.

“There’s your answer!”

Jade went white. Then red.

“You think I needed you?! I left because of my family! You had nothing to do with it!”

She was screaming now.

“You made me some fantasy! Turned me into your ticket out! Now everything’s burning and you blame me?!”

Her voice cracked.

“This is all you, Carter! You did this to yourself! You deserve this!”

Carter pointed at her, shaking.

“The biggest mistake I ever made was believing you! Thinking you’d save me!”

His voice broke.

“I was blind! I chased someone who used me like trash!”

“You were blind!” Jade fired back. “You threw yourself into the fire! Now you’re mad you got burned?!”

She laughed bitterly.

“You’re just some narcissistic moron who got played!”

They kept going. Screaming. Tearing each other apart.

Days later, Hayes Corp went under.

I’d already dumped my shares. Sold them all to Jade.

She thought buying them made her untouchable,

Turns out they were worthless.

When she found out, she went nuclear.

“You said you loved me! Now the company’s gone! What do you have left?!”

Her voice went shrill.

“You can’t even afford a wedding!”

Carter’s head jerked up.

“This is your fault! You lied about everything! You destroyed my company!”

Jade tilted her head. Smiled coldly.

“I lied? Carter, you begged me to come back. You said you loved me.”

She stepped closer.

“Now everything’s falling apart and suddenly it’s my fault? You couldn’t spot a fake if it slapped you in the face.”

She turned on her heel.

“That’s on you.”

And she walked out.
