Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 28

Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 28

Julian’s plan was almost perfect.

No one wanted to go anywhere near Ebola medical waste. No one imagined anyone would be inside.

Two children at a time. Every three days.

A humanitarian worker waited along the road to receive them.

Two weeks later, only two children remained.

The oldest. A brother and sister. His name was Liam, hers was Marie.

The day of their transfer, Julian was in a good mood.

He said it again.

“Thank you, Lena.”

I didn’t answer. I just held his hand.

We’d almost made it.

We even started celebrating early.

Liam and Marie performed a Hutu folk dance for us.

Julian made the best meal he could manage from camp supplies.

I took photos. Many of them.

When night fell, they started putting on the protective suits.

Marie handed me a marker.

“Can you sign these?”

Julian and I looked at each other. We signed.

I thought for a moment. Wrote: We hope you grow up well.

Julian wrote: We hope you find your family again.

I wrote: We hope the war ends soon.

Julian wrote: We hope we see you again someday.

The suits were covered in words. Blessings everywhere.

By the end, everyone was crying.

The children pressed into us.

Their voices came through the suits, muffled:

“We’ll remember you forever!”

“Thank you! You’re our heroes!”
