Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 04

Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 04

I went home from the network and dug out the camera bags from the back of the bookshelf.

Old memories. The cameras felt unfamiliar in my hands. The batteries were long dead.

While they charged, I slid in the memory card and opened the files.

The first photo: a woman in line waiting for cholera tablets.
The second: a child soldier, five years old, the rifle taller than he was.
The third: refugees in North Kivu, living in torn tents.

The smell of smoke and dust came through time.

Something grabbed my chest and wouldn’t let go.

I leaned back in my chair, waiting for my heart rate to drop, and almost laughed at myself.

If Brendan ever saw any of this. Would he still have written stable and low-maintenance in my file?

My phone buzzed.

A message from him. A restaurant location. The bridal party dinner.

I’d almost forgotten.

I had no close friends of my own, so everyone there was his.

But I knew what tonight was really about.

Because today, Jade was back in town.
