Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 03

Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 03

Couldn’t put you through it.

Strange words to come out of Brendan’s mouth.

I met Brendan on a blind date, set up by mutual friends.

Ambitious, youngest attending physician at a leading hospital, good-looking. The whole package. But his parents had always gotten in the way of his relationships. Controlling, demanding. They wanted a daughter-in-law who was obedient, sharp-eyed, servile.

The first time I visited his family home, his mother handed me a basin of water and told me to wash her feet.

I did it. I was willing to put up with it.

Because the first time I saw Brendan’s face, I thought: for this face, I’ll do anything.

We dated for two years. His parents loved me. And Brendan slowly got used to a house that was always clean, a table that was always set, shirts that were always pressed.

But his attitude toward me never changed. Lukewarm at best.

Then, his birthday. I wanted to bake him a cake. The oven exploded during preheating.

When he got to the hospital, my arm was full of glass.

That was the only time I ever saw him come undone. He took my face in both hands, voice shaking.

“You don’t have to do these things for me. You don’t have to.”

Even then. He never once said he couldn’t put me through it.

He proposed eventually. I thought it meant something real. A choice.

It wasn’t. He just needed to give his parents what they wanted.

Jade was someone he loved enough to let go.

The moment I saw their messages, I knew. This is over.

He was performing for his parents. I was performing for myself.

But no matter how good the performance, it’s still a performance.
