Betrayed After Getting Rich Overnight Chapter 07

Chapter 7 Don’t Contact Me Again

The card reader beeped. Transaction approved.

When the screen showed seven million dollars paid in full, all three of them just stood there with their mouths hanging open.

“That’s impossible! Seven million? Where the hell did you get seven million dollars?!” Felicia’s voice came out sharp and accusing.

Autumn’s eyes lit up with greed, and her gaze turned nasty. “Summer, even with that settlement money, there’s no way you’d have this much. You’re thirty and still single. Don’t tell me some guy’s keeping you as his… oh!”

She slapped a hand over her mouth like she’d said something she shouldn’t have.

Then she put on this fake concerned expression. “Oh sweetie, how could you take dirty money like that? If people find out, Mom and Dad won’t be able to show their faces anywhere.”

Michael buried his face in his hands like he was too ashamed to look at anyone.

Understanding finally dawned on Felicia’s face, and she looked ready to murder me. “Summer! You disgusting whore! You actually sold yourself! I’m gonna beat you to death, you shameless slut!”

She lunged at me, but the security guards grabbed her and held her back.

I was so furious I actually laughed. These people would make up any lie they could think of just to trash my reputation. My own parents heard someone accuse me of prostitution and didn’t even bother checking if it was true. They just assumed I was guilty.

“You’ll say anything, won’t you? Wanna know where I got the money? Fine, I’ll tell you!”

I pulled out my phone and scrolled to my blocked contacts, opening up my chat with Felicia.

“Take a good look at this. I told you before I even came back home that I’d won the

lottery. Ten million dollars.”

The second those words left my mouth, everyone in the room went dead silent. Some looked envious, others straight up jealous.

Autumn stood there frozen for a solid minute before she yanked out her phone and pulled up that video of the lottery winner. Her face went pale.

“Holy crap, it really is you! You actually won!”

Her expression twisted into something ugly.

“Summer! You won ten million bucks and you’ve been hiding it this whole time? Why didn’t you tell Mom and Dad? What, you don’t think of us as family anymore?”

The nerve of this woman. Talk about turning the tables.

I shoved my phone in her face.

“Didn’t I just tell you? The second Mom found out I got laid off, she freaked out that I’d come home mooching off them. She blocked my number, kicked me out of the house, and told me we were done. She cut me off completely.”

Felicia’s face went sheet white. Her hand shook as she pointed at me.

“Then why didn’t you say something when you got here? I see what this is. You picked a fight with us on purpose, pushed us into cutting ties so you could keep all that money for yourself. Summer, you’re way more calculating than I ever gave you credit for.”

Autumn jumped right in to back her up.

“Seriously, Summer. Mom and Dad raised you your whole life, and you can’t even trust them with something like this? That’s really messed up.”

Michael didn’t say anything, but the accusation in his eyes said plenty.

I looked at the three of them twisting the truth to suit themselves and let out a cold laugh.

I pulled up the messages I’d sent to a real estate agent before coming home, where I’d asked about buying a villa for my parents to retire in.

You really think I was gonna keep it all to myself? The second I got that money, I already had it planned out. I was gonna buy you guys a house and set you up for life. I even dropped thousands on gifts because I wanted to tell you the good news in person.”

I let out a bitter laugh. “But I never expected this. You thought I lost my job and went broke, so you panicked. Thought I’d be a burden. Thought I’d mooch off you. I show up at your door and you’ve changed the locks. Won’t even let me inside. And when you finally do, you’d rather dump the food in the trash than let me have a single bite.”

I looked Felicia straight in the eye.

Mom, did you ever stop to think about what would’ve happened if I hadn’t won that money? If I really was broke and you threw me out on Christmas? Where the hell was I supposed to go? How was I supposed to survive? I’ve spent years paying back whatever I owed you. And since you’ve already kicked me out and cut ties with me, let’s just leave it at that. Don’t contact me again.”

I walked out and drove off in my new car, leaving them sobbing and wailing behind me.

Over the next few days, Michael, Felicia, and half the family took turns calling from new numbers and sending me long guilt-trip texts.

It was always the same garbage. Parents could never be wrong. I’d thrown my little

antrum, so now I needed to come crawling back and apologize.

Michael and Felicia had sacrificed so much raising me, and now that I’d hit the jackpot, I owed them. I should be taking care of them.

And if I had all this money, I was a selfish piece of trash for not sharing it with the family.

Felicia was the worst. She cried and carried on, calling me ungrateful and coldhearted. What kind of daughter guards her money from her own mother? How could I be so cruel?
