Betray the Mafia Heiress? You’re Finished. Chapter 03

The second I stepped in, every eye locked onto me at once.

The men who’d been chattering away fell silent in an instant, guilt flickering in their stares.

Back when Cian went bankrupt, several of the people in this room owed him money.

I’d gone door to door with him back then, begging them to pay their debts so he could cover company losses.

Some hid indoors, ignoring our knocks and calls entirely.

Others made empty excuses, claiming they had no cash and would pay later before slamming their doors shut.

A few even set their dogs on us before we could speak a word.

After that, none of their numbers stayed in service.

I’d once thought Cian was smart enough to see the truth.

After everything we went through, I figured he’d know who had been sincere with him and who had only been pretending.

Yet some people chose to stay willfully blind, and no words could wake them up.

“What’s that supposed to mean? It’s not like we did anything wrong. Why would we be afraid to see you? You’re the one who beat up Cian like that, and you still have the nerve to show your face around here? Hazel, three years and your skin’s gotten thicker than ever!”

“You’re just taking advantage of the fact that Cian’s an upright guy who won’t lay a hand on a woman. That’s why you act so recklessly. If it were me, I’d have buried you in the ground by now.”

I let out a low chuckle, grabbed a vase sitting in the corner of the booth, and hurled it straight at the man who’d spoken.

Chaos erupted in the small room in an instant.

“Come on, then,” I said with a smile. “Let’s see who ends up crying for their mommy.”

I smiled calmly, picked up a sharp shard of broken porcelain from the floor, and slowly walked toward Cian. “Are you coming home with me, or staying here to waste breath with these people?”

Cian slammed his fist against the table and shot to his feet, rage pouring from every word. “Enough, Hazel! I’ve already told you—I don’t love you anymore. I want a divorce. Get the hell out of here now, and I might consider giving you a little something. Otherwise, you won’t see a single cent!”

A divorce? That was certain.

But the one calling the shots on the terms? That was going to be me.

I held his furious gaze without flinching, sliding a prepared divorce agreement across the table toward him. “Fine. Divorce. But you walk away with nothing.”

I’d drafted this agreement three years ago.

I’d wanted to end things the moment I learned about his affair.

Still, I’d held back. Letting him walk free too easily would never be enough.

I’d wanted him to taste the despair of rock bottom, then the thrill of climbing back to power.

And when he grew most arrogant, I’d drag him back into the dark for good, never to rise again.

Cian let out a cold, mocking laugh, his sharp eyes piercing into me. “Why would I agree? You’ve carried my last name for six years. Elara has waited three long years. It’s time you stepped aside.”

Before he could finish speaking, I slashed the porcelain shard across his cheek.

He froze in shock, and I struck him hard across the jaw, snapping his head to the side.

“Who do you think you are? What makes you think you get to bargain with me?”

I’d told him plainly before we married, I’d been raised as the cherished princess of my family, spoiled and sheltered my whole life. I would never endure unfair treatment.

He’d promised me back then that he’d love me unconditionally, no matter what.

“Hazel”, he’d said, “you never have to change for me. Just be yourself.”

Now he stood stunned and dazed, knocked senseless by my blows.

He snapped out of his daze in an instant, rising to his feet in a fit of rage. “You crazy bitch! You’re dead!”

Rage radiated off him in waves as he raised his hand high, ready to strike.

Yet his arm hung frozen in the air, never falling.

“Hit her! Come on, Cian, do it! She’s wiping her feet with your face, man. You really gonna take that?”

“Yeah! She’s got the nerve to hit you today, who knows what she’ll do tomorrow? You need to teach her a lesson!”

“Don’t forget what she did to Elara before. You’ve never avenged that.”

The crowd egged him on, feeding the conflict with loud, reckless jeers.

I let out a cold scoff, braced both hands on the dining table, and flipped it over in one sharp motion.

Plates, bowls and silverware crashed to the marble floor, shattering into jagged pieces.

Flying shards sliced across Elara’s calf, drawing a sharp cry of pain from her.

“Ah, it hurts…”

The next second, a tight grip closed around my throat, cutting off my breath.

Cian’s eyes blazed red with fury as he stared me down.

“Hazel, how dare you! You hurt her once, and now you dare to hurt her again? Have I been too good to you?”

“The way you’re carrying on right now, you look like a crazy bitch! A woman like you? No one in their right mind would ever love you.”

“The only reason I put up with you for so long is that you stayed with me through those three years at rock bottom. You should be grateful!”

He clutched my neck tighter, wild and unhinged.

Not a single person in the room stepped in to stop him.

My breathing grew shallow and labored.

Just as darkness began to creep in, my fingers brushed against a forgotten metal fork on the wrecked table.

I grabbed it without hesitation, driving it hard into his abdomen.

“Cian. You’re finished.”
