Barren, Betrayed, But Backed By A Secret Billionaire Dad: I’ll Make Them Pay In Blood Chapter 04

“Stupid Adwan, if you had been even a minute later, those thugs would have ruined me!”

At her words, Adwan’s eyes overflowed with tenderness, but when he looked at me, his gaze was colder than ice.

“Jelena, apologize to Megan. Now.”

As if afraid I would refuse, he added casually,

“At worst, it’ll just use up another chance.”

I froze.

It felt as though something inside my chest suddenly shattered into dust.

“I told you it wasn’t me. Why won’t you believe me?”

I was nearly out of strength, yet those men stepped in at just the right time to grab me.

“Mrs. Jones, you can’t say that. Look, these are the chat records you sent us, and here are the transfer receipts. See for yourself.”

“Was it because we didn’t go far enough? Or maybe we made it too obvious? Don’t worry, Mrs. Jones. Next time, we’ll wait until Megan is alone and then we’ll strike!”

I looked up helplessly and met Adwan’s icy stare.

He still believed them.

The man roared furiously,

“Get out! All of you! If you ever touch Megan again, you won’t live to see the morning!”

The men exchanged looks, then shoved each other as they scrambled out of the ward.

My feet felt nailed to the floor, unable to move even if I wanted to.

Adwan strode up to me, gritting his teeth.

“Apologize to Megan. Now.”

I looked at him, then at Megan smirking behind his back, and suddenly I laughed.

Megan had cut my brakes, switched out my scalpel, and Adwan had never once asked her to apologize to me.

Neither of them had shown the slightest guilt.

Now, just because of a clumsy performance, he hated me enough to force me this way.

Through blurred tears, I looked at him.

“Use up a chance, then. Are you sure you won’t regret it?”

At that, Adwan sneered.

“Are you threatening me?”

“Jelena, don’t tell me you can’t handle the game after all.”

I shook my head with a bitter smile, finally letting go. I walked up to Megan.

Shielded by my presence, she flashed a triumphant grin, waiting for me to kneel and beg forgiveness.

My palms clenched until they went numb.

“Miss Megan, I hired those men to threaten you. I’ll never dare to do it again. Please forgive me.”

As Adwan walked over, Megan put her pitiful mask back on.

“Jelena, don’t be like this. Just not killing me is already a huge favor.”

Seeing this, Adwan took my hand, his voice softer now.

“Jelena, don’t do this again. From now on, let’s just—”

But I pulled my hand away, lowering my head in silence.

Adwan, there was no “from now on” for us anymore.

He tried to speak again, but Megan tugged at his shirt with a spoiled pout.

“As compensation, you have to stay at my house and take care of me.”

And under Adwan’s indulgent “alright, alright, alright,” I turned and left the ward.

The thugs from earlier were loitering in the hall, chattering and laughing. When they saw me, they smirked mockingly.

When I got home, I recorded Megan’s one-hundredth prank—the one Adwan had condoned—into my notebook and snapped a picture.

Then, without hesitation, I signed the divorce agreement.

I called my father to update him, packed my things, and headed straight for the airport.

By the time I reunited with him, Adwan was only just dragging his weary body out of Megan’s ward.

At the corner of the hallway, he overheard those men chatting.

“Megan’s pranks are still the best. She’s got Jelena running in circles!”

“Hahaha!”

Adwan froze, dazed. He was about to step forward to question them when his phone buzzed with a message.

[All one hundred chances are gone. Adwan, we’re getting a divorce.]
