Barren, Betrayed, But Backed By A Secret Billionaire Dad: I’ll Make Them Pay In Blood Chapter 02

“Give her a hundred chances. If you still can’t take it after that, you can divorce me.”

At the time, I had thought it was utterly ridiculous.

He would rather push me closer and closer to the edge of collapse than scold Megan even once.

But now, his blind protection of Megan had turned into my chance for freedom.

Watching the two of them laugh and play together, I forced a crooked smile.

“This counts as one chance too, doesn’t it?”

Adwan looked at me as though I was speaking nonsense, but still nodded casually.

“Sure. You’ve got a hundred of them. Use them however you want. That way you won’t seem so petty.”

But in truth, there was only one chance left.

As I walked out of the hospital, a cloud of exhaust kicked up dust, dragging me back to reality.

Megan had once said she never dared ride in anyone’s car but Adwan’s.

Since then, Adwan would rather use up one of her chances than let anyone else sit in the passenger seat. That seat belonged to her alone.

Even though he knew Megan loved her pranks, he still chose to trust her again and again.

Shaking uncontrollably, I called my father overseas.

“Dad, soon I’ll come find you abroad.”

He was overjoyed and quickly asked me when.

“When Adwan uses up the last chance.”

As I spoke, I marked down Megan’s ninety-ninth prank.

While talking, I had unknowingly taken the wrong turn.

A pair of high beams flashed in my face. Dizzy for a moment, I realized it was Adwan’s car.

“If I hadn’t turned back to look for you, you would’ve gotten lost. Who were you talking to on the phone, so absorbed?”

I quietly hung up. “No one.”

“Why aren’t you with her?”

My indifference from earlier had already pushed Adwan’s impatience to the edge.

“You’re still angry, aren’t you? I already promised you a hundred chances. That’s the biggest compromise I can make. Do you still want to cause trouble?”

He had used those hundred chances to teach me endurance.

When Megan replaced my burn ointment with sulfuric acid, I had endured.

When she killed my eight-month-old child, I still couldn’t cry.

More and more, I understood.

He was only using me as a tool to please Megan, to make her laugh.

Now that I no longer cried or argued, he still wasn’t satisfied.

I shook my head.

Afraid he might misunderstand, I added softly, “Didn’t she just use up one chance? I won’t be angry.”

Adwan’s breathing hitched. He shoved me into the car, slamming the door with a loud bang.

But before we even made it out of the suburbs, Megan’s personalized ringtone pierced the tense silence.

Adwan slammed on the brakes and answered the call from “Princess Megan.”

On the other end came her tearful voice.

“Stupid Adwan, I got hit by a car!”

In an instant, the anger in his eyes turned into pure panic and worry. He quickly reassured her, “Send me your location. I’ll be there right away!”

Then he turned to me, all patience gone.

“Get out! What are you still sitting there for?”

This place was desolate, at least a thirty-minute drive from the city.

I told him the truth, but he seized on it instead.

“That’s exactly why I need to hurry! Get out of the car!”

He dragged me out.

The door slammed shut, and his car disappeared into the night, leaving nothing but dust.

He never saw the cuts I had gotten from the fall, or the blood dripping steadily down my legs.

With no signal on my phone and spasms of pain wracking my body, I staggered along the empty road for more than ten minutes before everything went black and I collapsed.
