Back to the Day She Stole My Mafia Fiancé Chapter 03

My parents arrived right on cue for the next act.

Luciana had somehow bypassed security and made it to the second-floor mezzanine, perching on the railing, threatening to jump.

One leg dangled over the marble foyer below, her eyes swollen and raw.

“All I want is what’s mine. Is that so terrible?”

“I’ve never hurt anyone. Why does this keep happening to me?”

“Antonio…” She choked on a sob. “I guess I was just a mistake. Tell her I’m sorry.”

The foyer went dead silent.

Antonio was shaking. He moved toward her slowly, hands raised like she was a bomb he was afraid to set off.

“Luciana, come down. Please. We’re not over. Don’t do this to me. Don’t leave me like this.”

Her face was white, tears sliding down without stopping.

“But she’s still my sister… I can’t do that to her…”

She closed her eyes and let go of the ledge.

Antonio lunged and caught her before she went over, pulling her against his chest so hard she gasped.

He held her like she was the only thing in the world worth saving.

The whole room exhaled at once.

My mother spun around and delivered a stinging slap across my face.

“Is this what you wanted? To push your own sister over the edge? What kind of monster did I raise?”

My father stepped in, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. “Apologize to your sister. Right now. Or I swear to God, Natalia, there will be consequences.”

My cheek was on fire. I didn’t flinch. “I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m not apologizing.”

They knew the truth.

Luciana was the one with the scrambled memory. Luciana was the one who got confused.

Why was I the one being punished for it?

“Enough!”

My mother cut me off, her voice slicing through the heavy air. “She’s broken because of you! She was rushing back for your engagement when she crashed. You owe her. For the rest of your life!”

“You’re keeping score over petty little things while your sister nearly died. You disgust me.”

“I wish I’d never had you. The world would be better off.”

Even Antonio looked at me like I was someone he’d never met and didn’t want to.

All of them. Closing ranks around her.

But here’s the thing about Luciana’s little suicide attempt. Right below that specific section of the mezzanine was the plush velvet seating area of the lobby.

A soft landing. You couldn’t break a bone if you tried.

But when I was shoved off a real rooftop, several stories up, with concrete below, nobody said a word. Nobody came for her.

It was always Luciana. Only ever Luciana.

Last time, I didn’t fight back. This time would be different.

The private medical extraction team I’d called showed up within minutes.

I walked straight up to the lead orderly. I pointed at Luciana. “That woman is having a severe psychotic break. She’s a danger to herself and the foundation’s staff.”

Antonio’s expression changed instantly, the tenderness gone, replaced by something sharp and ugly aimed right at me.

My father was in my face before I could blink.

“Have you lost your mind? You’re institutionalizing your own sister?”

My mother came at me again, her manicured nails digging into my arm, her voice a vicious hiss.

“God help me, I raised a snake. A cold-blooded snake.”

“If those medics take Luciana out of here, you’re dead to this family. Do you hear me? You’ll have nothing.”

Every one of them was staring at me like I’d set the building on fire. I stared right back.

My heart had already broken in another life. There was nothing left in me for them to hurt.

The Natalia who would have done anything for this family, she died on that rooftop.

I turned to the lead orderly and handed over the paperwork I’d already prepared. “The patient is my sister, Luciana Sterling. She has a documented psychiatric condition and severe memory impairment.”

I passed them the photocopied medical records to back it up.

Luciana had always been thorough. Wherever she’d gotten this medical certificate from, it looked completely legitimate.

Last time around, that piece of paper was her shield, the thing that made her untouchable no matter what she did to me.

But this time, the same document was going to bury her.
