After I Walked Away and Found My Real Home, They Finally Regretted It Chapter 09

My best friend teased me as I held my phone, just about to speak.

Suddenly, her voice took on a hint of annoyance. “Vivian… have you been dreaming lately?”

“Dreaming about the Sinclairs from the other world?”

She faltered mid-sentence, and I felt a strange knot in my chest.

Her tone suddenly turned sharp, almost disgusted.

“I’ve dreamed of Nathaniel five nights in a row. Each time, he was crying, asking where I was.”

“He said he’d found a way to reach my world and told me to wait for him.”

“That’s horrible… we should pray tomorrow, hope things get better.”

Dreaming of the Sinclairs?

I thought about the eighteen years I spent in that other world.

My heart clenched, pain stabbing uncontrollably.

Were they happy now to be free of me?

Without their “troublemaker,” they could pamper Amelia without restraint.

I brushed it off, sinking into a deep sleep.

That night, I truly dreamt of them.

They clawed at me, hands gripping my wrists, trying to pull me back.

“Vivian, I know I was wrong… please forgive me!” Julian cried.

“Vivian, I won’t scold you again. Will you come back?” Leo said.

“Vivian… Mom misses you so much!”

Their apologies made my chest ache, recalling the pain of being stabbed seven times.

I struggled desperately, breaking free from the nightmare.

The next morning, my friend and I went to pray, though my heart remained restless.

Returning home, I forced a smile at the door, not wanting my family to notice.

Just as I reached to open it, the door swung open on its own.

Mom’s tear-streaked face appeared, eyes full of anguish, and she wrapped me tightly in her arms.

“Vivian… my cancer is gone. Was it you?”

“Was it the deal with that system?”

“Vivian, we dreamed…”

“How could they treat you like that?!”

“I keep thinking about it… Were you in pain?”

Dad and my brother’s eyes were red, helplessly staring at me.

Two men, wishing they could have taken my pain away.

I laughed softly, letting tears roll down. “It didn’t hurt at all!”

“The system gave me a pain-free tool. Really, nothing hurt. Don’t worry.”

Pretending to be carefree, I patted my chest.

“My heart is so strong now, and I even stopped that medical riot… I saved seven doctors!”

“Seven!”

Before I could finish, Mom clutched me tightly, hot tears streaming down her neck.

“Vivian… my baby endured so much pain…”

“How dare the Sinclairs treat you like that?!”

Mom let out a furious cry, raw and feral, like an animal protecting its young.

“If I ever see them…” Her voice shook. “I swear I’ll make them pay.”

All my lingering frustration and hurt melted away.

I laughed, letting salty tears slide into my mouth, bittersweet and warm.

The months that followed were a blur of study and exams.

By September, I had my acceptance in hand, admitted to the physics program I had dreamed of at Northbridge University.

On the day my family walked me to school, we took pictures at the entrance.

Suddenly, the Sinclairs appeared not far off.

Richard and Margaret’s hair was streaked with gray, faces lined with wrinkles.

Julian and Leo looked pale, exhausted.

“Vivian…” They called out, eyes red, running toward me.

“It’s really Vivian… we finally found her!”
