Downstairs, the crowd had erupted.

Screams and shouts came one after another.

Vivian’s body trembled.

She inched toward the window in disbelief.

When she saw my body lying completely still, she jerked violently.

She staggered back a few steps, frozen in place.

Behind her came Nina’s shaking voice,

“Dad… why is Dad on the ground?”

Vivian’s heart took a hard hit.

Only then did she snap back to reality and stumble toward the stairs.

Elliot fought to suppress the smile at the corner of his mouth.

He hurried out of bed and grabbed her.

“Vivian, don’t go. Blood is bad luck. Security will handle his body.”

“Honestly, him dying is for the best.”

“Saves him from clinging to you and refusing to divorce!”

Vivian flung his hand off, her face dark.

“Nonsense!”

“Ethan promised to stay with me for life. How could he die!”

Her voice shot up.

Elliot staggered back a few steps from the shove.

He hadn’t expected that.

Vivian had just forced me to swallow a cake full of glass shards for his sake.

And now she was this shaken by my jump.

By the time he looked up in shock, Vivian was already gone.

A long line had formed outside the elevator.

Vivian was frantic.

She turned and rushed into the stairwell beside it.

The last time she’d been this desperate to see me was the day I proposed.

That day, an accident blocked the road.

Every car was forced to stop.

Vivian simply got out of the car and ran toward me.

Back then, I smiled and wiped the sweat from her forehead, helpless.

“You didn’t have to tire yourself out like that.”

“You know I’d wait for you, no matter how long.”

She shook her head and smiled.

“Because I want to see the person I love as fast as possible.”

“So I have to run.”

I was so charmed by those words that my eyes curved into a smile.

That smile of hers froze in her memory.

From far away, the noise of the crowd pulled Vivian’s thoughts back.

My body was already completely surrounded.

Vivian struggled to push through the crowd to my side.

The person who had been smiling in her memory now lay in a pool of blood.

A quiet face drained of color.

Vivian crouched beside me.

Her fingers trembled as they touched my nose.

I wasn’t breathing.

The rational string in her head snapped completely.

Her eyes went red in an instant.

“You’re joking with me, right?”

“You said it yourself—you loved me most, you’d stay with me for life.”

“How could you break your promise first?”

“Wake up, Ethan! If you wake up right now, I’ll go home with you.”

“I’ll give you anything you want! I’ll satisfy whatever you want!”

Vivian’s hoarse voice rose bit by bit, until she broke down in tears.

I didn’t answer her. I just lay there quietly, lips pale.

The people around all fell silent, watching Vivian lose her mind.

Until a rushed voice came from behind,

“Miss, please step aside.”

Several doctors and nurses hurriedly placed me on a stretcher.

They ran me toward the emergency room.

Vivian followed in a daze to the operating room door.

Every second dragged on endlessly.

Suddenly, someone tugged at the hem of her clothes.

Vivian turned and saw Nina, with a servant standing behind her.

Vivian knew her.

She was the servant who had always stayed by Elliot’s side.

The moment their eyes met, the servant hurriedly lowered her head and stammered,

“There’s something I need to tell you and your daughter.”
