After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond Chapter 08

A week later, my phone buzzed with a call from Mara, the Luna of the Silver Moon Pack. Seeing her name flash across the screen, I already knew why she was reaching out When I answered, I kept my tone formal and respectful–strictly following protocol. “Luna Mara, as I’ve mentioned before, if there’s anything you need, please speak directly to Alpha Evander ”

“Nalani, it’s just a quick question. It won’t take much of your time,” she said, her voice trembling in a way I’d never heard before

“Go ahead,” I replied, gripping the phone tighter.

“The hospital called earlier. Apparently, you left your watch behind during your last visit. They tried reaching you, but your phone was unreachable, so they contacted me as your emergency contact.”

I feigned surprise, my voice calm despite the tension coiling in my chest. “Oh, I completely forgot about that. It’s just a watch, but it was expensive. I’ll make time to pick it up.”

“That’s not what concerns me,” she cut in, her tone sharpening. “They mentioned you were in the obstetrics department. Does this mean you were… carrying Evander’s pup?”

I hesitated, the weight of her question pressing down on me. “Yes,” I admitted finally, my voice steady. “But the pup’s gone now. I terminated the pregnancy on the same day we finalized the separation at the pack gathering.”

“How could you…?” Her voice cracked, and for a moment, I thought I heard genuine pain in it. “Does Alpha Evander know?”

“Mara,” I said pointedly, dropping her title, “think about it. At the gathering, Zayla was all over him during the separation ceremony. Tell me, was I supposed to keep the pup?”

“But–how could you not? That was part of our bloodline, our pack’s future,” she argued, her voice rising.

“It’s over,” I said firmly, cutting her off. “There’s no point rehashing it now. Sure, it was tied to your bloodline, but what does it matter anymore? Let Zayla bear his pup if she can.”

After hanging up, I unblocked the hospital’s number from my contacts, my hands trembling slightly. I hadn’t expected Mara to find out before Evander. Lately, he seemed buried in his responsibilities as Alpha, oblivious to the world around him. I wondered if his mother would confront him about this.

*Evander, you need to wake up. It’s time you noticed that ultrasound report.

I leaned back in my chair, my mind drifting to the future. The pack’s hierarchy, the rigid rules, the endless expectations–they had all shaped my life, but now I was free. Mara’s call was a stark reminder of the world I’d left behind, a world where I was no longer bound by duty or tradition. I had carved out a new path for myself, one where I could breathe without the crushing weight of the Silver Moon

Pack.

And yet, as I sat there, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of something—regret, perhaps, or maybe just the lingering ache of a bond that had been severed too abruptly. But I pushed it aside, focusing instead on the life I was building for myself. Evander’s world was no longer mine, and I was determined to make that clear to everyone–especially him.
