After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond Chapter 07

When the mandatory waiting period finally ended, I clutched the separation papers in my hands, the ink still fresh, heavy with the finality of our severed mate bond. The ceremony had been quick, but the tension in the air was palpable–Evander’s Alpha aura loomed over everyone, and Zayla’s scent, a mix of roses and something sharp, clung to him like a possessive claim.

She stood beside him, her golden hair glowing under the light, her smirk dripping with triumph. I mirrored her expression, though my heart was being torn apart by the lingering threads of our bond. Evander looked lost, his dark brows furrowed as if he were sifting through foggy memories. ‘Did I really bond with you just because my family pushed me?‘ he blurted, his voice low but laced with the authority of an Alpha. ‘Was it not because I loved you?‘

I almost laughed. How was I supposed to know if he ever loved me? His words made me question whether his memory loss was real. But it didn’t matter anymore. The moment he’d left me for Zayla, his feelings ceased to be my concern. My wolf whimpered softly in the back of my mind, but I shut her down with a sharp thought.

I didn’t answer. Instead, I turned to leave, gripping the separation papers tightly. The grandeur of the Silver Moon Pack’s hall, where the ceremony had taken place, now felt suffocating under the weight of the pack’s stares. Evander’s voice halted me after only a few steps.

‘I think I suddenly remembered something,‘ he said, his tone softer now, almost pleading.

I spun around, pulling my arm away as he reached for me. ‘Alpha Evander,‘ I said, my voice icy and formal, ‘there’s nothing left between us. Whether you remember or not doesn’t concern me. Besides, you’re in love with her. I wish you and your new mate a long, happy bond.‘

I framed the separation papers and hung them on the wall of my den, the stark black and white of the document standing out against the warm wood. Ensley, my Gamma friend, clapped from the side, her sharp eyes gleaming with approval. ‘It’s art,‘ she said, grinning. ‘Truly a masterpiece.‘

In the days that followed, I buried myself in travel guides. For years, I’d poured everything into being the perfect Luna, caring for Evander and the pack, never exploring the world beyond our territory. Now, with the bond broken and my freedom reclaimed, I was ready for adventure.

With the savings I’d quietly built through my side hustle and investments, I skipped the spacious townhouse I’d once considered. Instead, I found a cozy den in the Scottish Highlands, far from the Silver Moon Pack’s territory. The owner was eager to sell and offered a steal. Once I signed the contract and pocketed the keys, I planned to hit the road.

Just as I sealed the deal, my phone buzzed with a call from Mara, Evander’s mother. Her voice was as sharp and demanding as ever.

‘Why don’t you come over for dinner this weekend? Your father wants salmon. Buy a lot, and while you’re at it, grab some lobster and

clams too.‘

I stared out the window of my new den, soaking in the rugged beauty of the Highlands. ‘Former Luna Mara,‘ I said, my tone polite but distant, ‘didn’t Alpha Evander tell you about our separation? From now on, I won’t be catering to your needs. It’s time for your new

Luna to shine.‘

Mara shrieked on the other end. ‘Separation? Evander never said a word! What new Luna? Weren’t you two fine?‘

‘All thanks to Zayla, of course,‘ I replied, my voice steady despite the ache in my chest. ‘Alpha Evander rekindled his bond with her. Oh, he didn’t mention that either, did he?‘

‘Zayla?‘ Mara’s voice was incredulous. ‘Wasn’t she mated?‘

‘Yes, she divorced her foreign mate and came back to bond with Alpha Evander. She asked me to step aside.‘

‘What the hell? Zayla?‘ Mara’s tone shifted from shock to disdain. ‘But she’s damaged goods! What does success matter? She’s been mated before!‘

I nearly laughed. They’d always glorified Zayla in front of me, claiming I couldn’t compare. How convenient to switch sides now. The call was grating, and I cut it short. ‘Well, Alpha Evander and she are a perfect match, two peas in a pod. I’m done with your family, so don’t bother contacting me. If you need seafood, ask Alpha Evander to get you an ocean of salmon.‘

I hung up, feeling a strange sense of relief. In the past, whenever they craved something, they’d call me to buy it and cook at their place. Over meals, they’d gush about how Zayla was thriving abroad, raking in cash, and how if she were their Luna, the pack might’ve mingled with the Lycan elite.

Back then, I was too eager to please Evander, too determined to be the perfect Luna, so I never protested. Now that the bond was over, there was no need to endure that nonsense. Elite society? They should take a good look at the mess Evander and Zayla had made.
