[The ex–husband is officially certifying himself as a jerk.) 

[Is he deeply in love or what?] 

[In love, my ass. Where was this energy before?] 

[Don’t look back, Sadie.] 

[But honestly? He’s actually taking responsibility for once.] 

My head pounded as I read the comments. 

Daisy, however, looked like she was about to flip our soda 

cooler in excitement. 

“Boss, this counts as a public confession, right?” 

I stirred the ginger tea. “It counts as free marketing.” 

“You’re really not going to go soft?” 

I shot her a look. “Daisy, have you ever dated anyone?” 

She shook her head. 

“Then remember this.” 

I scooped some syrup into a bowl. 

“When someone has hurt you for too long, their later acts of kindness don’t trigger excitement. They trigger caution.” 

Daisy seemed deep in thought. 

“So, the ex–husband has zero chance?” 

I didn’t answer. 

Because I didn’t know, either. 

It wasn’t about whether I should take him back or not. 

It was about wondering when this entire entanglement would finally reach its end. 

Julian truly stopped bothering me directly. 

He only did two things. 

First, he kept his family in check. 

Second, he ordered combos. 

He didn’t come in person. 

He used delivery runners. 

Ten orders every single day. 

The note was always the same: [For whoever needs it.] 

At first, I canceled the orders. 

But the app showed he just kept making new accounts to order 

again. 

Daisy shrugged. “Boss, the money is innocent.” 

I thought about it and accepted. 

After all, he was the one getting roasted on the notes. 

If he wanted to pay me to insult him, who was I to refuse? 

Half a month later, I saved enough to rent the small shop. 

It was a tiny space on the back street of the market, formerly a bubble tea shop that went bust. 

I changed the sign to: Sadie’s Stand. 

I added a line of small text underneath: 

[Specializing in ‘Delusion Detox‘. Hot dogs served on the side.] 

On opening day, Millie sent a flower basket. 

Daisy blew up balloons. 

My mom took a four–hour bus ride to get here, bringing a massive bag of her homemade pies. 

She stood in front of the shop, staring at the sign for a long 

time. 

Then, she secretly wiped the corner of her eyes. 

“My daughter is truly amazing.” 

My throat tightened as I hugged her. 

“Mom, come by whenever you want. I’ll make you hot dogs.” 

She patted my back. “Easy on the ice, my teeth aren’t what they used to be.” 

Just then, a commotion broke out at the street corner. 

Chloe stormed in. 

She looked much worse for wear than last time–her hair was messy, and her eyes were terrifyingly red. 

“Sadie!” 

My mom jumped. 

I shielded her behind me. 

“What are you doing here?” 

Chloe pointed a finger at me. “This is all your fault! My brother froze my cards and made me apologize to people! My mom won’t even talk to me anymore! Happy now?” 

I looked at her coldly. 

“You’re in your twenties, with two hands and two feet. You can’t survive without your credit card?” 

She shrieked, “Why should I have to live like this? It’s all because of you!” 

Customers in the shop started staring. 

Daisy picked up her phone. “I’m calling the cops.” 

When Chloe heard the word “cops“, her bravado wavered, but 

she lunged forward again. 

“You dare?” 

I grabbed her wrist. 

“Chloe.” 

I stared her down. 

“I used to put up with your insults because I looked at you as 

Julian’s sister.” 

“If you touch me again, I’ll only see you as a nuisance.” 

She struggled, but couldn’t break free. 

“Let go of me!” 

I released her. 

She stumbled back, slamming into the doorframe. 

Just then, Julian arrived. 

He must have rushed over–his forehead was slick with sweat. 

His face darkened the moment he saw Chloe. 

“Who told you to come here?” 

Chloe looked at him like he was her lifeline. “Julian! Do something! She just grabbed me!” 

Julian didn’t look at me. 

He only asked Chloe, “Did you come here to apologize, or to cause a scene?” 

Chloe looked stunned.
