After Divorce, I Sold Anti-Ex Cards—He Bought Ten Chapter 02

Julian didn’t argue.

He pulled up his Venmo and paid three hundred dollars.

My combo was fifteen dollars each.

Ten should have been one-fifty.

He paid double.

I stared at the notification. “What’s this for?”

“Compensation.”

“For what?”

He said calmly, “For the three years you didn’t get to yell at me enough.”

I laughed.

The night breeze pressed my apron against my legs. I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

“Julian, stop acting like you’re lovesick.”

“On the day we signed the divorce papers at City Hall, you didn’t even take that hot latte I offered you.”

“Three years of marriage. Your mother said I had no manners, your sister said I was a social climber, and your friends said I was just after your money.”

“What did you say?”

I stared him down.

“You said, ‘Sadie, don’t be dramatic.'”

His Adam’s apple bobbed.

I didn’t give him a chance to speak.

“Well, I’m not being dramatic anymore.”

“I sell hot dogs and sodas, and sell my emotional baggage.”

“If you don’t like it, get lost.”

Julian stood there, unmoving for a long beat.

I thought he’d finally feel the awkwardness.

Instead, he grabbed the ten bags, took two steps, and looked back.

“Are you going to be here tomorrow?”

I forced a smile. “Why?”

“To buy tomorrow’s.”

“Julian.”

“Yeah?”

“Get lost.”

He nodded. “See you tomorrow.”
