After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 04

After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 04

A week passed, and people online were still attacking me.

Eventually, I came to a decision.

If Caden’s fans were so determined to defend him online, I wasn’t going to waste my time arguing with them.

Besides, I hadn’t had time to check social media these past few days because Leon had been driving me insane.

After I left the hospital, the star quarterback who was usually too busy to come home during the season suddenly started hanging around me all day as if he’d lost his job.

The moment team practice ended, he came straight to my apartment.

He even refused to use the team’s facilities for his recovery workouts and insisted on taking over the private gym in my basement.

That left me sitting off to the side, watching him do weighted squats and shoulder exercises.

“Leon, you follow me around every day. Don’t the models, streamers, and cheerleaders you’re rumored to be seeing mind?”

He set down the barbell, sweat sliding along his sharply defined jaw.

As his body temperature rose, his heated cedar scent turned sharper and far more dominant than usual.

My wolf stirred faintly in my mindscape.

Leon turned his head toward me, his slightly upturned eyes curving with an easy smile.

“Of course they don’t.”

“The whole league knows that no matter how many women I’m linked to, Erin will always come first.”

“All right. Just in case you forget me one day too, it’s time for another memory check.”

“What did you do for your eighteenth birthday?”

I stared at him, speechless.

Ever since we confirmed that Caden was the only person I had forgotten, Leon had dragged me to several different hospitals.

Every doctor agreed that my amnesia seemed more like my soul trying to protect itself.

When Leon first heard that, he looked as relieved as if he’d finally made it through a brutal season.

But it wasn’t long before he started checking every few hours to make sure I still remembered him.

We had grown up together in Chicago for as long as I could remember.

I couldn’t imagine what would be left of my mind if I ever forgot Leon too.

“I remember.”

“When I turned eighteen, my family refused to let me go skydiving, so you secretly took me to Whistler in Canada.”

“When we came back, Mr. Carter beat your ass bloody with a cane, and you couldn’t get out of bed for two days.”

The answer came naturally.

Even now, I could still remember the weightless rush of falling through the sky.

And I remembered the boy who had refused to follow the rules just as clearly.

At some point, that reckless boy had grown into a man standing at the very top of professional football.

Satisfied that I remembered everything, Leon smiled.

Then he muttered under his breath.

“Did you forget the person you loved most or the person you hated most?”

“How can you remember every last thing about me, but somehow…”

Before he could finish, my phone rang.

The caller spoke in a cool, businesslike tone.

“Miss Winter, I heard you’ve recovered.”

“We still haven’t received your final confirmation for the league’s annual documentary or the global sportswear endorsement you promised Caden.”

“We’ve cleared his entire offseason promotional schedule for both projects, so I wanted to check whether you’d simply forgotten to confirm them.”

“Who is this?”

There was a two-second pause.

“I’m Caden’s agent.”

“I don’t know you.”

That was when I realized I hadn’t only forgotten Caden. Most of the people and events connected to him had disappeared from my memory as well.

Panic crept into his agent’s voice.

“Miss Winter, you can’t cancel at the last minute. Our entire team has planned his training and publicity schedules around those deals.”

I let out an incredulous laugh.

“And what does that have to do with me?”

“This is my private number. Don’t call it again.”

I ended the call.

The moment Leon heard Caden’s name, he dropped the resistance band in his hands and walked over to me.

“Is he bothering you again?”

Fresh from his workout, his muscles were still tense, and his Alpha presence pressed down so heavily that the entire gym seemed to fall silent.

I patted him on the shoulder.

“It’s nothing.”

I had already forgotten Caden. What could he possibly have left behind in my heart?

He was nothing more than an error in my records. I just had to delete it.
