After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 03

“Girls, look! Someone in London got pictures of Caden and Natalie walking around campus together!”

“Now that is what real soulmates look like. He crossed the Atlantic just to be there for her.”

“I know this sounds awful, but thank God Miss Winter ended up in the hospital after that accident. Otherwise, when would Caden ever get a little freedom?”

“Erin chased after Caden for years, and I never felt anything between them. But when Natalie stands beside him, even their scents seem to blend together.”

“Everyone, be careful. Once the heiress of the Silver Lake Pack wakes up, she won’t have her lawyers shut down all our accounts, will she?”

“To be fair, Erin did help Caden a lot. He went from being undrafted to where he is today because of her.”

“Stop defending rich people. She used her money and connections to come between two childhood friends, then forced Caden to publicly admit they were dating. Why should anyone feel sorry for someone like that?”

It took me more than ten minutes to piece everything together.

Apparently, I was the old-money Pack heiress everyone accused of throwing her family’s weight around and forcing a star player to date her.

The comment sections revealed far more than I had expected.

I turned off my phone and immediately had my driver take me to Nora’s apartment on Lake Shore Drive.

I needed to get to the bottom of this.

“So you’re saying I really did all those reckless things for Caden?”

After listening to Nora talk for nearly two hours, I sat in silence for a long time.

Apparently, I had once publicly humiliated one of the team’s sponsors at a charity gala just to help Caden compete for a starting position.

I had also paid for his private coach, physical therapist, nutritionist, and media team out of my own pocket.

After he went undrafted, I paid for exclusive use of a training facility and called in every favor I had to secure him a tryout.

Did that man do anything besides bring trouble into my life?

I immediately deleted the photos I had just saved and unfollowed him.

The moment resentment set in, the face I had found stunning only minutes earlier stopped looking special at all.

He wasn’t even close to Leon.

Nora’s throat had gone dry from talking, so she drained a large glass of water.

“Losing your memory is one thing, but why do you have to make me relive all this miserable crap?”

For the first time, I truly understood that I had lost an entire part of my life.

There was not a single memory of Caden left in my mind.

“So I really was the one who used my family’s status to come between them?”

Nora slammed her glass onto the table.

“Don’t give yourself that much credit.”

“Back then, Natalie wanted nothing to do with Caden because he was only a backup who couldn’t even land a proper contract.”

“You poured your money, resources, and every connection you had into turning him into a star. She only came back after he signed a major contract.”

“You weren’t the one who came between them.”

She glanced at me.

“At most, you were the woman who spent a fortune and got absolutely nothing in return.”

Ignoring the discomfort twisting inside me, I continued sorting through the facts.

“So I spent my money and energy turning him into an All-Pro. Then he got close to his childhood friend again, walked away with his career and the woman he wanted, and I got nothing?”

“That’s not true.”

Nora patted me on the shoulder.

“You also got all the public blame.”

Wonderful.

What a spectacular investment failure. Business schools could use it as a case study.
