After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 02

Nora, who had been downstairs handling my discharge paperwork, rushed back soon after.

She first shot a glare at the two visibly panicked bodyguards outside the door.

“Are you seriously letting just anyone walk in now?”

Then she shoved aside the stranger standing next to me.

“Caden Reed, how dare you show your face here?”

Nora came from one of Chicago’s oldest legal families, and she rarely even raised her voice.

Whatever had happened had to be serious if it could make her lose her temper on the spot.

Caden stood beneath the harsh white lights of the hospital room, regret written all over his face.

“I’ve been in England for the past few days.”

“I didn’t know Erin had really been in an accident until I saw the news yesterday.”

Nora let out a cold laugh.

“And now you finally decided to come back?”

“Didn’t you fly to London for your childhood friend’s graduation ceremony? The same friend who even has you carry her luggage?”

“What happened this time? Did Natalie catch the faintest whiff of suppressant, claim she was losing control of her wolf, and insist that you fly over there to calm her down?”

Caden’s expression darkened at once, and his Alpha pressure spread through the room.

“Watch how you talk about her.”

“I was the one who chose to go. Natalie didn’t do anything to you. If you want to blame someone, blame me.”

“That’s exactly what I was waiting for you to admit.”

A man’s lazy voice came from the doorway.

Leon, whom I had sent downstairs to pick up a package, had returned without anyone noticing.

He took off his baseball cap and lifted his gaze, his eyes full of mockery.

Caden’s Alpha pressure barely affected him.

As one of the league’s best quarterbacks, Leon not only had extraordinary physical ability but was also the strongest Alpha of the Carter family’s generation.

Before Caden could say another word, Leon stepped forward and drove his fist into Caden’s face.

Both men’s Alpha pressure erupted at once, making the glasses in the hospital room tremble.

“I’ve been wanting to punch you for a long time.”

Nora smiled with open satisfaction.

Caden crashed into a chair and fell to the floor.

I was discharged without any further trouble.

Caden, however, had to stay in the hospital for two more days because Leon had broken his nose.

I kept questioning Nora the entire way home.

But she refused to explain exactly what had happened between Caden and me.

Fortunately, I knew how to look him up online.

At first, I wasn’t even sure how to spell Caden’s last name, but he was famous enough that the browser automatically filled in his full name.

He was the Chicago Frost Wolves’ star wide receiver. He had been named an All-Pro two years running and had even been nominated for the league’s Offensive Player of the Year award last season.

No wonder I’d thought he was exactly my type the first time I saw him.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the old me really had invested in him.

As I scrolled through the news, I saved several photos of Caden in uniform.

Then I started seeing my own name over and over again in his fan communities and beneath his social media posts.

The smile vanished from my face.
