Accidentally Yours Chapter 04

Accidentally Yours Chapter 04

Isolde had told me Thorne was the most successful of our generation.

His jewelry brand was now a top seller in the industry.

While the rest of us were still relying on our families, he’d already broken away and built an empire

on his own.

I’d just gotten back, so it made sense to network with him for my future career.

But I knew exactly what I was afraid of.

So I made an excuse.

Sorry, I’m helping Isolde with her dress fitting tomorrow.

How about dinner, then? It won’t take long.

Thorne was Isolde’s friend, so I couldn’t keep turning him down.

Besides, acting too standoffish might raise suspicions.

So I agreed.

That night, I had a dream.

In it, Thorne found out I was the one he’d been talking to and called me a shameless liar.

He said he’d never like someone like me.

Worse, he crashed Isolde’s wedding to steal her away.

I woke up in a cold sweat, terrified.

The dream felt so real, like it was actually happening.

The next day, while helping Isolde try on dresses, I couldn’t stop thinking about Thorne crashing the wedding.

Jokingly, I tested the waters. “Isolde, hypothetically… if someone who’d liked you for years showed up to your engagement party to whisk you away, would you go?”

Isolde squinted at me for a moment. “That’s a ridiculous question, but I’ll play along. You’re underestimating how solid me and Dorian are. We’ve been together for ages. We’re each other’s

whole world.”

She paused, then switched gears. “Speaking of which, it reminds me of something. Thorne once told us he had someone he’d liked for a really long time. Then he made a fatal mistake, and they ended up missing their chance. He’s been single ever since. I wonder what kind of girl he’s into.”

I was stunned.

I couldn’t believe Thorne would share something só personal with Isolde.

The “fatal mistake” he mentioned had to be those six months of online dating with me.

But with Isolde’s superhuman obliviousness, unless Thorne confessed outright, she’d never pick up on the subtext.

Honestly, I don’t think Thorne ever stopped loving Isolde.

That afternoon, Thorne picked me up on time.

He looked like he’d made an effort today. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his crisp suit made

him look even taller.

His expression was calm, his lips pressed into a thin line.

When he got close, I caught a whiff of clean cedar and oud. Subtle, but striking.

Too bad his hopes were dashed.

Isolde was too tired from the dress fitting and had already left with Dorian.

Thorne had gone to all that trouble for nothing.

I’ve watched enough movies to know where this is going.

Suddenly, it hit me. Was Thorne using me to get closer to Isolde?

My mind was a mess.

I was lost in thought the whole drive.

While waiting at a red light, Thorne took a call.

Since his phone was connected to the car’s Bluetooth, I heard the whole thing.

Thorne: “Is everything taken care of?”

Caller: “Yes, Mr. Ashford. Everything’s ready. Just waiting for

your

word.”

Thorne: “Keep it low-key. It’s not exactly something to brag about.”

Caller: “Understood, Mr. Ashford.”
