A Gift for the Don: I Aborted His True Love’s Heirs Chapter 05

Three days later, Damian’s entourage returned from Las Vegas.

The black motorcade had just passed through the Falcone estate gates when a delivery driver stopped them.

“Package for Nina Varano.”

At the same moment, Luca came sprinting from the main building, his face twisted with panic.

“Don! Donna Audrey. She was attacked while walking along the shore! She’s in the hospital. She’s not going to make it!”

Nina’s voice instantly spiked, sharp and urgent. “What? Are the babies okay?”

The driver hadn’t left yet. Hearing this, he couldn’t hold back.

“I saw a pregnant woman get hit yesterday too. Heard she was carrying a whole litter. Lost every one of ’em. Died ugly.”

The moment he handed over the package, a stomach-churning stench hit them.

The family men covered their noses, gagging. “What the hell is this? Who sent it?”

“What kind of sick joke is this?”

Nina shoved the package into Damian’s hands, demanding he open it.

Damian’s hands were shaking. In that instant, it was like he already sensed what was coming.

The box slipped from his grasp. It hit the ground.

The contents spilled out.

“Ahhh!”

Nina shrieked and stumbled back. The others went pale.

“Is that—?”

The moment they realized what they were looking at, sharp gasps rippled through the crowd.

Damian stared at the objects at his feet. His entire body locked up. The next second, he lunged at the driver.

“Impossible! This is fucking impossible!”

“Where is she? Where is Audrey Santoro right now?!”

The driver went ashen under his grip, shaking his head frantically.

“Audrey Santoro? I don’t know. I was just paid to deliver.”

Damian released him. He forced himself to breathe. His expression darkened. He knew. I had discovered everything.

That’s why this package was sent. It was a message meant specifically for him.

“These are not my children. And Audrey absolutely could not be dead!”

Damian yanked out his phone and dialed my number in a frenzy.

Nina kicked the box aside, screaming with rage.

“If Audrey’s dead, what about my babies?! How useless can she be?
She couldn’t hang on long enough to give birth before she died?! And she had the nerve to send me this?!”

Her face was bloodless. Her whole body trembled.

The surrounding members started grumbling.

“She was seven months in! Two more months and the babies could have survived! Now it’s all for nothing!”

“Why did she have to get attacked now? Six children gone. What a waste.”

“And our bets. All lost! I had money on her lasting until delivery.”

“Did she send this because she found out the children weren’t actually hers?”

“She definitely knows.”

Their voices wound Damian’s nerves tighter and tighter.

He whipped around and roared, “Shut up! All of you, shut your mouths!”

Silence crashed down around them.

He grabbed Luca by the throat.

“You said Audrey was attacked. Where exactly did it happen?”

Damian tore across the entire Eastern Seaboard, hunting madly for any trace of me.

Eventually, he found a box filled with ashes behind the hospital.

“The Donna bled out after the attack. We tried to reach the Santoro family, but she told us she had no living relatives. Before she died, she left a note. She wanted to be cremated.”

Damian’s hands trembled as he took the slip of paper.

Inside was a single line in my handwriting: [Damian Falcone, we’re even.]

Regret came far too late.

Damian clutched the death note, his eyes bloodshot.

When he arrived at the hospital in a mad rush, Nina and the family members trailed behind him.

No one cared whether Audrey was dead or alive.

They only had one urgent question. “Are the six children really gone?”

Nina frowned, pure impatience on her face. “What a waste. All those hormone injections. All for nothing. Everything she went through, pointless.”

Someone stared at the preserved remains on the ground, still shaken. “Seven months along. Just gone like that. What a damn shame.”

Damian spun around. His eyes blazed like a feral wolf.

“She’s dead. And the only thing you care about is the children?”

Nina sneered coldly. “So what if she’s dead? What’s that got to do with me? My bone marrow supply’s gone. Even if she were still breathing, she should be on her knees in front of me.”

Slap.
