“Oh.”

Pain stabbed through my heart.

Julian’s breathing grew a little heavier, as if he was trying hard to restrain himself.

“Is something wrong?”

“No.”

I hung up immediately.

It seemed I had overestimated Julian’s morals.

I knew very well what that breathing had meant.

The comments chimed in.

[Of course. He was practically going insane from holding back.]

[It just so happened that Ivy’s Succubus Syndrome flared up. The two of them were a perfect match tonight.]

[They’re probably going all night.]

[All the moves Julian practiced with Vivian can finally be used on Ivy.]

[I can’t even imagine how happy the two of them must be.]

I stared at the ceiling, a self-mocking smile tugging at my lips.

In the past, I hadn’t fulfilled my responsibility as his wife.

Step by step, I had pushed him away.

Now, he had finally left my world.

But even if I was at fault, he still shouldn’t spend the night with another woman before we were divorced.

I waited anxiously for Nathan to finish the composition analysis.

But his call never came.

I was so uncomfortable that I nearly bit through my own lip.

An hour and a half later, Julian pushed open the gate to the yard outside the cabin.

He knocked on the door from outside.

“Vivian, open the door.”

My body was so weak I barely had any strength.

Barefoot, I went to open the door for Julian.

He brought in the cold night air with him. Sensing something was wrong with me, he pulled me into his arms.

“What happened? Where do you feel sick?”

The drive from Ocean Drive to the lab took two hours.

Julian had arrived in an hour and a half.

Had he driven like that because he had a death wish?

Wait. He came so quickly…

Did that mean he hadn’t betrayed me?

I stared at his lips, my mind blank except for feverish thoughts.

“I was pricked by a plant thorn during an experiment. It feels awful…”

Julian gently laid me on the bed, felt my forehead, and asked urgently,
“What plant? Could it hurt you?”

Then I saw the smudged lipstick mark on Julian’s neck.

It was obvious that he had tried to wipe it off, but hadn’t managed to
clean it completely.

It was impossible to ignore.

From what I knew of Julian, he liked when his lover left marks on him.

In the past, when we were intimate, he would guide my mouth to his
neck and murmur, “Kiss harder.”

“You can bite.”

“I’m not afraid of pain.”

“It’s fine if you leave a mark.”

The comments appeared.

[Julian came to see Vivian with Ivy’s lipstick mark on his neck.]

[That’s outright provocation.]

[On the surface, he’s trying to hold on to Vivian. In reality, he’s telling
her to let him go sooner.]

A moment ago, I had wanted to confess everything to him.

Now I backed away.

There was a lipstick mark from another woman on his neck.

No matter how badly I was suffering, I would never let him touch me again.

“I’m fine. Nathan is developing the antidote.”

I pushed him away.

“Go pour me a glass of water.”

Julian got up, poured me a glass of water, and helped me drink it.

He seemed to realize what was happening to me, and he lowered his head, trying to kiss me.

My phone rang abruptly.

It felt like a lifeline, and I hit speakerphone.

Nathan’s voice was excited.

“Vivian, I finished testing the compound. It doesn’t contain anything harmful to the human body.”

“I’m preparing the dose now. Do you want the injection?”

I answered, “Yes. I’ll come over.”

I asked Julian to carry me to the lab.

On the way, he kept asking questions.

“Do you have to take the injection?”

“Are there any risks or side effects?”

“Vivian, let me help you, okay?”
