A CEO With An Impossible Libido Chapter 02

A CEO With An Impossible Libido Chapter 02

An hour later, Julian carried me out of the bathroom and gently set me on the bed.

I was so exhausted my whole body felt weightless, as if I had sunk into a cloud.

Exhausted, I murmured good night to him.

“Good night.”

Julian paused. Then he leaned down and touched my cheek.

“You’re already tired?”

I nodded and said seriously, “Yeah. I was at Sterling Mountain Preserve today, and I’m exhausted. You should get some sleep too.”

Julian stared at me for a moment, as if he wanted to say something but held it back.

Then he answered in a voice that was both tender and disappointed.

“Okay. Go ahead and sleep.”

I closed my eyes and refused to look at his gaze, still dark with desire.

I had already been very proactive.

That should be enough, right?

The comments flooded the screen.

[Is she blind? Can’t she see the male lead is still nowhere near satisfied?]

[She changed, but only a tiny bit. Nowhere near enough.]

[Does she have some kind of misunderstanding about the male lead’s stamina?]

[What Julian just did barely counted as a warm-up.]

[He was getting ready to run a marathon, and the supporting female character had already reached the finish line?]

[She only gave him an appetizer and soup. They haven’t even reached the main course. How is the male lead supposed to be full?]

[If the male lead had married the real heroine, tonight would’ve been a feast.]

[What a waste. Such an intense male lead, stuck with a frigid wife.]

[Vivian is always staying out in the mountains, sometimes for half a month without coming home.]

[Every time, Julian has to drive to the preserve to find her.]

[Even when Julian goes to see her, she still puts work first.]

[She always throws herself into the lab and leaves Julian hanging alone in the cabin.]

[She turns him down all the time, saying she’s tired.]

[When she’s busy, she can go three months without sleeping with him.]

[Paychecks come once a month. What is she doing, giving the male lead a quarterly bonus?]

[No normal man could take that, let alone a man with a sex drive like his.]

[If I were the male lead, I’d divorce her too.]

[Vivian, don’t sleep. The male lead has enough stamina to go until sunrise.]

Maybe I was naturally detached when it came to sex.

That hour in the bathroom had truly been enough for me.

I had no strength left to keep up with Julian until dawn.

I thought, after I got some sleep, I could make it up to Julian when I woke up.

With that in mind, the guilt in my heart faded a little.

The moment my head touched the pillow, I fell asleep.

Half-asleep, I sensed a pair of large hands pulling the blanket over me.

I turned over and kept sleeping.

Julian stared at my sleeping face for a very long time.

Long enough for the moonlight outside the window to be covered by clouds.

Long enough for the light in his eyes to go completely dim.

Then I heard him say quietly, “Vivian, let’s get divorced.”

I opened my eyes and looked at Julian.

His expression was dark and grave. He looked like he had already made up his mind.

Maybe because the comments had spoiled it ahead of time, I didn’t react with much surprise.

I rubbed my eyes and asked drowsily, “Can we talk about it tomorrow?”

The disappointment on Julian’s face deepened.

“Okay.”

He got up and headed toward the study.

The comments appeared again.

[I’m so done. Does she have no feelings for him?]

[Julian talks to her about divorce, and she says they can talk tomorrow.]

[With that attitude, she must be dying for Julian to divorce her.]

[She might as well write “I don’t care” across her face.]

[Julian must be completely crushed now.]

[Julian only married her because of family pressure. He never loved her in the first place.]

[After the divorce, the male lead can finally enjoy himself with the succubus heroine.]

[For Julian, the sooner he gets divorced, the sooner he’s free.]

The comments were twisting my meaning. It wasn’t that I didn’t care.

I had worked overtime in the lab last night.

I didn’t get back to the cabin to sleep until six in the morning.

I slept for only four hours before my colleague from the lab, Nathan Channing, called and woke me up.

Recently, we had been researching a special vine.

When a person was pricked by its thorns, the blood they squeezed out would turn pale blue.

Their entire body would burn unbearably, almost as if they had taken an aphrodisiac.

They would even become addicted to it. Once pricked, they would want to keep piercing their skin with the thorns.

After too many pricks, it could even alter their body’s physiology.

We named the vine Succubus Vine.

We didn’t know how many people had been pricked by the Succubus Vine’s thorns.

Our current lab project focused on extracting its special compounds and developing a neutralizer.

Nathan said on the phone that he had made an important discovery.

So I got up, rushed to the lab, and plunged headfirst into the experiment.

I worked until six in the evening before driving back to Hartwell Manor.

After dinner, I looked up data and journal articles in the study.

The fact that I had managed not to fall asleep in the bathroom was already impressive.

Right now, even if the sky collapsed, nothing could stop me from sleeping.

The comments kept going.

[Fine, fine. You’re noble. You’re ice-cold.]

[Career first, male lead last, right?]

[Let me say this. Vivian having ambition is a good thing.]

[But Julian needs someone who actually makes him feel wanted.]

[So these two aren’t compatible at all.]

[This marriage was forced from the start. Both of them are exhausted.]

[Julian has had enough of being ignored and left out.]

[Julian is already drafting the divorce papers in the study.]

[Vivian can spend the rest of her life with her lab.]

Even in my dreams, I was doing experiments.

In the dream, just as I was about to develop the neutralizer, the lab door slowly opened.

Julian’s personal bodyguard took out an official seal notice and pressed it onto the lab door.

The bodyguard said respectfully, “Mrs. Hartwell, Mr. Hartwell is taking back the preserve, and the lab will be shut down. He has given you three days to move out.”

The scene in my dream changed.

I clung to Julian’s leg.

“No, Julian, please. Can you not divorce me? Can you not take away the lab?”

In the dream, Julian threw the divorce papers in my face and said coldly, “No.”
