He Called Me Dirty, He Was The One Cheating Chapter 05

But now I couldn’t feel the pain in my heart anymore.

I stood up, didn’t look at any of them again, and walked out of the private room.

Back at the estate, I called my assistant and asked her to handle packing my things.

I grabbed only my documents and a few changes of clothes. Then I dragged my suitcase out the front door of Sterling Estate.

It was raining outside, soaking my hair and clothes.

My phone screen lit up. A message from Damon.

[Once you’re done throwing your tantrum, come home.]

I stared at that message, deleted it, and blocked his number.

A taxi pulled up to the curb. “O’Hare International Airport,” I said.

The rain in Chicago fell all night.

…

The next morning, Damon sat in the hospital and stared at the gray sky through the window, his brow slightly furrowed.

Lauren had been frightened last night, so he had stayed with her in the hospital overnight.

Only after the doctor confirmed the fetus was safe did he finally exhale.

He lifted his wrist to check his watch. Eight in the morning.

Normally at this hour, Elena would have already made breakfast and pressed the clothes he planned to wear with perfect precision.

He took out his phone and dialed the familiar number.

“The number you have dialed is busy…”

He called three times and got the same message every time.

Damon’s face darkened.

“Still sulking.” He let out a cold laugh and tossed his phone onto the table.

He assumed Elena was just at home sulking like she always did.

As soon as he went back and gave her a little affection, she’d come wagging her tail like an obedient little dog.

After all, she had no family left in this world. Where else could she go besides the Sterling house?

Damon stood up and told his assistant to handle Lauren’s discharge. Then he drove back to the estate himself.

He opened the front door. The living room was silent.

No smell of food. No slender figure waiting for him at home.

“Elena.” He changed his shoes and walked into the living room.

No answer.

He frowned and went upstairs, pushing open the master bedroom door.

The room was spotless. He walked to the walk-in closet and yanked open the door.

The half of the closet that had belonged to Elena was empty.

All her clothes, shoes, bags, even the skincare products she always used, were gone.

Only his expensive bespoke suits remained.

Damon’s heart skipped a beat unexpectedly.

He spun around and strode to the vanity.

Three items sat neatly on the surface.

A spare key to the estate. A pair of cufflinks he had spent a long time searching for.

And a newly printed divorce settlement.

At the bottom, the name “Elena Sterling” was signed clearly.

Damon stared at the document, and a flicker of irritation crossed his eyes.

“Playing hard to get only works the first time.”

He picked up the papers, ready to rip them apart again.

His phone suddenly rang.

It was his company assistant, and her voice was urgent.

“Mr. Sterling, we have a problem.”

“The East Side clean energy project. The client is suddenly demanding a pause.”

Damon’s eyes sharpened. “Why?”

“They said this project has always been handled by your wife. Now that she’s left, they don’t trust the new person we assigned.”

Damon’s grip on the phone tightened.

“What did you say? She left?”

“Yes. She submitted her resignation through the internal system last night.”

The assistant swallowed hard and lowered her voice.
